Is it me that can't read, or does it say you can put paddle shifters on the MT?

EPA fuel economy numbers: (city/hwy/avg] 22/30/25 for 6MT, 25/34/28 for 6AT. [this implies the EPA ratings are skewed and the 6MT will actually get closer to the 6AT numbers, that's my hunch]

Curb weights: MT: 2762/2776, AT: 2809/2822.
Target Customer:
[summary]
Median age 47
That EPA spread is terrible for the manual! Worst spread I've seen since the CR-Z 6spd vs CVT! At least the weight isn't as bad as I figured.

They're targeting people my Dad's age. My Dad wants a Mustang GT so he's not exactly in the sub-compact sports car market though.

That is the automatic you are looking at.

The demographic of this forum is only a small niche. I wouldn't be surprised if the average buyer for a BRZ is your above average white collar making 70-90k.

It's likely household income not individual income.

Median household income in the USA is like $50k. Depends on race (Asians and whites are the highest, AA lowest). $89k is almost 2x.

Oh man, I thought this had already been posted and I had missed it. I snagged the very same brochure from behind the BRZ display at the chicago auto show. I think a subaru rep had left it there by mistake, it was behind the closed off area :P

NINJA EDIT: seems it was a different brochure o_o

Good post though! However, my brochure has a weight split of Front: 55% and rear: 45%

Sorry for the poor quality pictures, I took them from my phone:

Wow, I need to brush up on my Census data

Yeah I guess Subaru is targeting this car for the above average consumer.

Census data also includes 15 year olds and their wages. It's a valid ource to use but IMO doesn't easily relate to the average household income of people who can buy a 25k car.

Hahaha you sound like a politican there. Sure census data doesn't relate to the average rich person looking at buying a Ferrari.

This car was suppose to be a cheap fun to drive car for the average man. Average man/family doesn't make close to $90k. If the premium still comes in around $24-25k then all this data won't matter. But if they are shifting the price up......

Thanks for posting these scans.

I know it's just marketing BS, but going by "Target consumer beliefs and motivations", Subaru is aiming for superficial douchebags (no offense anyone).
Target consumer beliefs and motivations:
  • I push in my career so I can have the best.
  • I am always looking for a thrill and aspiring to get ahead.
  • I think about green more than I act on it.
  • I'm always looking for the greatest and latest, and consider myself fashionable.
  • I'm sophisticated and refined.

Nah, the MT is in (the low end of) the range of what I've been expecting. Real-world MPG is typically a bit better in a car like this, especially when driven conservatively.

As far as targeting households making $89k/year goes, that's only 59th percentile for household income (married filing jointly), though it's a higher percentile for individuals.

http://taxpolicycenter.org/numbers/d...cfm?DocID=2970

And both the BRZ and FRS are still under the average price for a new car.
