NVH like some others have stated but I'd like to add that it probably had a lot to do with engineering and cost. Meaning its easier and cheaper to engineer a two piece steel driveshaft vs a one piece aluminum/carbon and also tunnel space probably was part of the equation too.

Just got ours in for the shop car not too long ago. Had to give it the treatment in the photo room.

This carbon version is so light...tough to perceive unless you are actually holding it.
