Update regarding rotors-

Didn't do an actual measurement, but the rotor on the front on my FR-S looks to be in the 24mm range but the rears look to be 18mm. It is fairly obvious visually and I just used a strip of paper to compare. So the mystery can be easily solved if someone with a sport tech would take a look at theirs.

However, I'm gonna bet they're the same on all models in Canada/US.

Mystery solved. Mine are ~24(f) & 18(r) as well (used a measuring tape).

Maybe there is some other difference for the rears then as they have different part nos for the base/Sport-tech according to a dealer parts manager I checked with.

I'm willing to bet there is no difference at all. If there was some difference, they would definitely use those differences to upsell the Sport-tech.

It is fairly unusual to have vented rear discs, but I'd still bet they're the same on all Subies. Also, I'd bet the Scion rotors are Subaru parts. Everything else is.

So far virtually all the differences have been related to trim specs and everything else is mono spec across the board. One exception is Scion has the TPMS but that was necessary as it is part of the Star Safety system in all Scions/Toyotas, which gave Toyota no choice but to add it in.

There has not been a single difference found mechanically in any of the twins in North America thus far AFAIK.

Makes sense, but still we have a different part no. for the rears and not the fronts. Curious.

See here's the thing, I wouldn't even be surprised if the Subie parts guy was mistaken. When they are searching stuff 200x per day they might not be as conscientious as you might think regarding a general interest inquiry. If he was making a sale then he'd be concerned if he ordered a wrong part. Just a possibility, not necessarily what happened.

Exactly. The other possibility is that they have a pre-production part number in the system, and have not updated (this happens more than you know...when I worked in the pre-production --> mass production group we saw it all the time. Engineering Change Instruction part #'s not being updated resulting in multiple part numbers floating around. Made life hell for our aftermarket guys trying to do damage control on recalled parts).

The point was that the only mention anywhere of different stock brakes is the Australian GT. The whole rest of the world shares the exact same brakes.

A little off topic here, but I went to the Auto-Show and received that wear2win bracelet that Subaru section was giving out, and apparently if you show the bracelet to your dealer you can get $500 off buying any Subaru vehicle between Feb and March 31st. I've already put a deposit and signed a contract that shows the price of vehicle, and how much down payment I'll be paying, etc. The vehicle is said to come near end of April, and I don't have VIN # yet, would I still be able to get the $500 off? I haven't asked the dealer just yet.

No, as stated earlier, the official Canadian BRZ options sheet at launch from Subaru gives different specs for the 2 models, so the Australian situation wasn't the only mention anywhere. Turns out the Canadian sheet appears to be incorrect, but that's a different point.
