I think what Asphalt meant was that OP probably thought there would be a bunch of ricer hate on this thread as opposed to the ricer pride that came about.

I guess it all depends on how you define rice.

Is it tasteful and useful?

Or poorly executed with bondo, over the top aero, and fart can exhaust?

A decade ago my buddies called my Celica "rice" (with its OEM/TRD mods + C-One wheels?!). Over the years I replaced it with a roadster/coupes and kept them completely stock. Then the FR-S/BRZ comes along. It's a friggin' blank canvas asking me to do something to it! "Rice" is such a harsh, derogatory way of saying "customization."

This car was specifically built for modding by Toyota. There is nothing wrong with that. If you don't like that some people have bad taste and will do horrible things to the car you got the wrong car.

I will tell my dad "it isn't rice, it's customized". Love it.

Japan had a weird way of modifying cars and still does today. It's funny how most of the import car enthusiasts realized how ugly it is while Japan continues to keep making ugly body kits.

A ricer is when someone puts more $ to make their car more heavier, less aerodynamic, less functional and more dumb looking.

Let's not forget the original

http://www.riceboypage.com/

google dates it from 1999 :O

I think we could always agree ricers are about poorly done mods, and weird owners that do things the tacky way. I've seen alot of car with body kits and there was alot of money spend on the cars and they looked ok (in a car show kind of way). To each it's own.
