If that were true then you cannot compare old cars with cars of today period.

If you don't factor in affordability (then and now), then you throw out the major reason why people would buy this car in this price range. We are not talking six digit super car money here. If they do a comparo and say "well, you got a better car back then compared to now" then they also must see how much one would have to pay for that car then and now.

That's like saying a first release NSX beats the FRS.

Completely different ballgame.

The reason why we compare is because they are the benchmarks. The E30 M3 is supposedly the benchmark of all M cars for chassis dynamics and steering feel. BMW is yet to recreate a car that brings back such balance and purpose.

In the end, this is just a couple of car enthusiasts that put together a collection of cars of past that have similar specs on paper, and then run them against each other in an attempt for an interesting article.
