As mentioned, most people start changing things on their car without ever tracking, or competing in it.

Also I am sure even on this forum if you asked the people who have bought coilovers if they knew the shock valving of the setup, the spring rates, or better yet why they chose the setup they would have little clue.

However, not to bag on these people because when it comes down to it, having custom valved shocks and springs rates to match is something thats not necessary for street cars.

It's best reserved for those doing wheel to wheel or trying to working on lap times.

Mike why is Koni not offering front in housings?

They never offered them for the subies, so I don't foresee them offering them for the BRZ either. From our discussions with them, they also didn't indicate they would be offering them either. Maybe KYB wants too much $ for the lisc of the design?

In summary, you should get the shock dynos for every individual shock you buy because no shock is 100% identical.

I am not saying that this guy is 100% correct, but it is something to think about. How many of you actually dyno your shocks after purchasing them?

When buying shocks/coilovers, do shock companies individually dyno each shock before selling them? Do they provide you with the dyno sheet for each shock?
the big answer is - that depends.

We do a number of damper setups here with custom valving, and this topic does come up. i will happily do it for people who would like. There is a charge for it.

Not one single person has taken me up on that.

On the flip side when you have a race team they are usually doing their own damper builds, and have their own damper technician.

So in the end it works like this -
Race team where tenths of a second count on victory, and sponsor dollars depend on it. yeah - they're going to dyno the dampers and go even further.

Street to mild motorsport dude. Nope. he's not going to pay the money.

Not enough volume to justify it.

Yeah, and that's where 95% of the buyers fall into.

Will you guys be offering Koni insert installs? Any ideas on how much it will roughly cost?

Are there any differences between Koni inserts + OEM housing vs full Koni with housings in terms of performance, reliability and durability?

No. The only real difference is convenience/ease of install.

Out of curiousity, what's the charge?

No idea, until this car I tried to stay away from Mac Strut cars lol

GC makes housings for the Koni inserts they use, check with them they may be willing to sell them.

And the ability to either a) sell the stock stuff or b) return it to stock later to sell the car.

It almost forces you into a coilover.
Last two cars were DW up front. So this is hard to get used to.

Guys can you update or make a quality post when Koni Sports launch and you have a kit together?

It was the same issue for Subarus before. Not many full replacement struts available. We were able to get Bilstein to make a customized full replacement strut and shock for us for 08+ Impreza but it took a LOT of convincing and time. The costs on their end are pretty high so most manufacturers are not willing to do it. We plan on doing the same thing for BRZ/FRS but it will take time again.

TIC has a thread where they are taking preorders for Koni packages (with RCE springs *cough*) in the vendor area. They did testing for Koni and part of that included running them with our springs.

AZP is another good shop that will have them available.

The pricing on our LGT pre-built setup... I would imagine the BRZ will be close.

Option 1
$573 Front Konis w/BRAND NEW housings assembled + Shipping

Option 2
$519 Front Konis w/USED housings assembled + Shipping

Core Refund (either option)
$50 for fronts
