I don't think I've seen a German car run much thinner than a 5w40, but I haven't had anything new. The oil we had at the VW dealer wasn't even API certified, at least two of our 5w-40 blends weren't. I remember putting Turbo Diesel blend Mobil-1 in my gasoline Jetta with great results. Basically once I understood that nothing German made sense I could fix VWs much easier

There are a few 30 weights that meet Euro specs (e.g. German Castrol/Edge SPT 0W-30), but they have a minimum High Temp High Shear of 3.5 cP for shear stability in order to meet ACEA A3. This is why Euro oils, and Rotella T6/Mobil1 TDT 5W-40 are also popular among the turbo Subie crowd. High HTHS oils do not shear to pee. This is apples to oranges for most BRZ's/FR-S's though.

Anyone here know if it is ok to run 10w30 in my FR-S??
I read somewhere that 10w30 was actually better to run then 0w20??
But I'm not quite sure.
I like using Castrol Full Synthetic with Syntec in all my vehicles, unfortunately, I cant find me Castrol oil in 0w20,
Anyone here got an advice for me??? Do i have to go to the dealer every time for an oil change?

Your engine is built with 0W-20 in mind so I would stick with it unless your specific conditions, along with trending used oil analysis data, show that 0W-20 isn't good enough for you.

No, you do not have to go to the dealer for oil changes. Just keep all of your oil receipts and do NOT ever go to Iffy Lube!

ok cool, thanks for your opinion.
i think i will stick to 0w20.
i actually found Mobil 1 Advanced Full Synthetic at my local Fred Meyers,
so i think ill have to switch up to Mobil 1 again cuz i cant seem to find it in my castro...

and i would NEVER have any jiffy queers ever touch my car,
i even worked at jiffy lube for a couple month and i can tell u,
its nothing but a bunch of retard idiots that work there, even the managers dont know shit!! lol

I do all my own work but with this car, i think ill take it in the dealer while its under warranty.

but what do u think about the oil changes every 7500 miles???

might do my own oil change every 3k miles and take it in the dealer every other 3k miles for my free oil change, but might just end up doin it myself.
i can do an oil change faster on my frs then it takes me to drive to the actual dealer . LOL

+1. I would really love to know too since Pennzoil Platinum and Ultra produce some of the best uoa's around. Not to mention that Pennzoil is the number 1 selling oil in the world.

based on the thousand's of oil changes I have done to various cars, I run penzoil over mobile 1 and valvoline any day......

Penzoil is a Euro spec oil IIRC

I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion regardless of whether it is supported with facts? This opinion is however expressed in an interesting way as it comments on the brand in general with no regard for the performance of specific products offered by the brand! Most of the hasty generalizations we read here probably need to be taken with a grain of salt. If many of the brands and products suggested to be totally unacceptable we're so terrible, it kinda makes you wonder how they are still in business?

its just my opinion. sorry if i offended anyone or hated on anyone over it.
just some things i have seen while working at my last shop and heard.
but also heard alot of good things about it.

if u do wanna use penzoil, i highly recomment u NOT to take it to jiffy lube. they hire nothing but buncha idiots to work there. lol

Ill use my Castro oil over any brand. but with my FRS, its looking like im gonna have to run Mobil1

Mobil1 is the only brand i can find in 0w20 at my local store without having to drive 15 miles to the dealer..
