I'm a Chevy truck guy, have been forever but they've totally lost me. The more time passes the more and more it looks like the Griswold Wagon Queen Family Truckster.

I'm holding out for the next F-150...if it looks even remotely as good as the Atlas concept and comes in Raptor configuration I'll be sold.

The 2013 F150 can be optioned with a 3.31, 3.55, or 3.73. 6th gear on the 5.0 is 0.69

The 2014 Silverado, according to AOL Autos, can be optioned with a 3.08, 3.42, or 3.73. I don't have trans gearing information for the 2014 Silverado specifically, but the current 6L80/90 has a .67 6th gear. No idea if that's been changed.

While the figures are impressive for the new 2014 Silverado, I still not wholly convinced it is the better truck when compared to the F-150.

As far as power figures are concerned, I congratulate Chevy on churning out some pretty decent power figures. The recent power increase puts them on par with the F-150.

I firmly believe, however, that the most misleading figures are those relating to Chevy's gas mileage claims. Sure, the Silverado might certainly get 2-3 mpg more than the comparable F-150, but lets take a look as to why that might be the case. At 70 mph, the F-150's engine is spinning at 1,733 rpm while the Silverado is spinning at 1,566 rpm. This accounts for about 1 mpg, and the 1-2 remaining can be accounted for the fact that the SIlverado's engine turns off 4 of its cylinders when cruising. So, it's really no wonder that it gets slightly better gas mileage than the F-150.

All in all, Chevy has come a long way, but I simply don't understand all of the hype surrounding their new lineup.

The hype is mostly that they're finally bringing a new, competitive product to market. The GMT900 model cycle lasted far too long and was, in the end, grossly inferior to other offerings.

Yeah, I can understand that. At this point, I think an individual's choice of truck is largely based on personal preference. No one truck is vastly superior at this point, which, depending on how one looks at it, can be a good thing or it can be a bad thing.

2016 Chevy Silverado puts on a better face

Quote:
When Chevrolet introduced the redesigned Silverado pickup for 2014, you, our loyal readers, gave the new truck's front-end a lukewarm response. Aside from saying it was ugly, one commenter came to the far more damning conclusion that this brand-new vehicle already looked dated. For 2016, Chevy has attempted to address opinions like that, issuing a comprehensive facelift to its bread-and-butter pickup.

Designers cut way back on the chrome for 2016, fitting a body-color strip across the middle of the grille and going to a single-headlight design. Combined with twin LED running lamps, the new look is much more modern while still harkening back to the retro-ish look introduced a few years back. The new truck also gets a much more muscular and aggressive hood, while the front bumper is significantly more modern, and features vertical housings for what look like LED foglights.

The bad news, here, is that there's only one picture, shown above. We have no idea what changes Chevy has made to the rear of the pickup, nor do we know what other versions of the truck beyond the Z71 seen here may be available. The Bowtie brand did, however, confirm that we'd see a wider application of the eight-speed automatic transmission, as well as a new version of the MyLink infotainment system, which will play nice with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Look for much more on the freshened Silverado when it makes its official debut this fall. Until then, check out the press release and hop into Comments. We'd love to hear what you think about this facelift.

Silverado Special-Ops Concept Is Chevy's Latest Addition For SEMA

It there’s anyone capable of coming up with a special-operation-forces, unique rescue vehicle, then Chevrolet would be it, apparently.

Based on the Silverado 1500 Z71, the vehicle was premiered at the SEMA show bearing a new front-end design and new technologies built into its high- strength steel body structure and fully boxed frame.

Chevy draw its inspiration for this project from naval design aesthetics, Todd Parker, director of design, Chevrolet Accessories, explained:

"We created light, medium and darker shaded areas within camouflage bands flowing down the hood, body sides and tailgate. That effect gives tremendous depth to the Silverado’s body, while reinforcing the nautical heritage of the unique camo design.”

The naval-inspired camo appearance is called “Razzle Dazzle” (also known as dazzle painting) and it was a family of ship camouflage used extensively in World War I. Artist Norman Wilkinson is credited for the camouflage concept, which consisted of complex patterns of geometric shapes in contrasting colors, interrupting and intersecting each other.

Anyway, the car’s three-tone blue-gray exterior color, uses a modern interpretation of the original concept, paying homage to the military-theme cues.

The Silverado is equipped with unique components and new Chevrolet Accessories parts, distinguishing itself (apart from the obvious theme) with a bed-mounted sport bar with LED lights, off-road tires, wheel flares, 20-inch aluminum wheels, custom rocker guards, and a GearOn utility systems. An LED light strip stretching across the top of the grille and a black Chevy bowtie logo completes the appearance.

The interior is also garnished with army-inspired elements, including a bright “Ejector Orange” color used on the door pulls and glove box handle. The seats are trimmed with waterproof covers and have embroidered headrests with the Special Ops logo, while the instrument panel and the armrests are made to resemble the car’s exterior appearance.
What A Name: Chevy's SIlverado Realtree Bone Collector Concept

Chevrolet’s interpretation of an ultimate outdoor adventure vehicle is beyond cool, and can be seen on the SEMA 2015 Show floor.

To highlight the 2016 Silverado’s personalization possibilities, the American car manufacturer teamed up with camo hunting gear company Realtree and Michael Waddell – the star of Outdoor Channel’s “The Bone Collector” – and came up with the Realtree Bone Collector Concept; this could very well be one of the most coolest names in automotive history

The prototype is based on the Silverado 1500 High Country crew cab with 4WD, and features a plethora of add-ons and mods, designed to make it the ultimate adventure truck, as Michael Waddell stated:

“This Silverado concept is the perfect outdoor lifestyle vehicle, offering the capability to take you deep into the woods and mountains, with the specialty gear to make the excursion more successful,” said Waddell. “The Realtree camo graphics really distinguish it, too, adding functional personalization.”

Yes, the Silverado bears a striking camo-motif, complemented by Realtree Bone Collector green graphics and the blackened-out body elements, but the coloring further extends to the tie-down rings and bungee cords in the bed (used to secure camping gear), and o the six-piston disc brake calipers, part of a concept upgrade package from Chevrolet Performance that also includes 16.1-inch-diameter (410mm) disc rotors.

The humongous brakes also indicate some serious grunt under the hood, more specifically a 420 hp, 6.2L V-8, which enables up to a 12,000-pound max trailering capacity. Combine this with larger, aggressive off-road tires, wrapped around Chevrolet Accessories 22-inch black aluminum wheels, and Chevrolet Accessories’ new off-road package (which includes front push bar, assist steps and sport bar, and features an LED off-road light bar to help illuminate the trail at night), and you’ve got yourself a very capable full-size toy.
