I have Passport 9500ix's in the daily drivers and a Beltronics RX65 in the pick-up. Love the false alarm GPS memory feature in the Passport as it filters them out when on daily commutes. Especially nice when you have passengers in the car. It has an edge over the V1 in this regard. Also, warns against red light cameras when you are in uncharted territory....as long as you keep the GPS database up to date. Sensitivity is excellent on all three of these brands as far as early warning on K and Ka IMHO. Valentine has an edge regarding direction finding and would come in handy if you are in a heavily patrolled area. Especially nice to tell if you have radar following you - at night when you don't have a visual. Laser warning has gone off a couple of times on the Passport but, doubtful if you'd have any chance of escaping detection once you're hit and it goes off. I got deals on the Passports by trading in older units. You won't go wrong going with either V1 or Passport 9500. All depends on your preference of features.

Bought a V1 back in 2003 that I use in my 4Runner and it's still working great! I originally thought that the arrows would be a gimmick... but found that it's what I like best about the unit... you instantly know where to look.
Bought a second V1 a few weeks after getting the FR-S. |

I'm torn. I like the idea of a radar detector; however, they're illegal in Florida. If there was a way to hide the innards inside the car, and have the information come through my head unit I'd be in heaven.

Unless there has been a very recent change, Radar detectors are not illegal in Florida. And there are several remote mounted options available. Escort has two options. K40 is still in the game too.

I had two V1s both broke. Went with a Passport 9500, was happier with it and the size/features. It all boils down to common sense anyway.

+1 for the V1, it has never failed me. Tried a 8500 at the same time I bought the V1 and it just didn't compare imo. The extra information the V1 provides (counter/arrows) has saved me a few times.

Isn't a V1 a little over $400? Too muchhhhh. Will this actually save me? I speed a lot and have only had one ticket (23 over). It's not that I'm an irresponsible kid, I just enjoy going fast, when safe. Anyways should I really get one of these

I had a brain fart. They're illegal on military bases (I live on a military base), see my dilemma?

Is that every military base? I go to Fort Stewart a lot and I'd hate to get pulled over. Funny thing is I'm an MP

I had my v1 on my visor w/ hardwire at all times. Lived on base, worked on base, went through the gates regularly for years. Never once did anyone say anything or stop me even with the top down (s2000). They probably never noticed it, considering radar detectors are typically mounted on windshields with visible power cord. Just turn it off if you get pulled over or are driving through the gates.
