This is basically the Yaris hybrid for America, a smaller and different model than the Prius. How do they keep the weight so low? The Ft-86 is also really small and doesn't have a heavy battery but it and nearly everything else weight more.

FRS is a sports car, it needs a stronger chassis for good dynamics while a car like the Yaris is allowed to "flop around"

Also Prius engines are specifically made lightweight with reduced strength components for friction reduction, and then rev limited to protect the engine. Not a big source of weight, but apply that philosophy to the whole car and you lose a bit of weight.

small engine, fwd, probably a simple I-beam rear suspension, smaller/less stiff chassis, etc...it does carry the hydrbid system though.

Toyota Prius C @ Dealers now

went into our local Toyota dealer to check out the Scion IQ in person yesterday, didn't even make it past the window sticker, setting next to it was a Toyota Prius C..., took it our for a test drive, what an awesome little car, its like driving a video game with all the computer controls and Entune™, 50MPG...we were at the dealer for a little over an hour, they sold 3 of them and will not see anymore for a while.....they will sell a ton of these cars if toyota can keep up.. @ $21K, $25K loaded with Entune™, 16" alloys, leather, sunroof etc...

Wife want to trade in her 2010 4runner trail on one NOW

IMO they look awesome !

Certainly looks like an improvement but I still am not very fond of it.

That is actually pretty cute, but they really have to get rid of that whacko front design, it is just gross.

lol, sane people would not want to manually control a torque splitting transmission with 2 electric motors. But I think it would be pretty amusing to take a Toyota HSD equipped car and try to control it manually.

LMAO....
I could never drive one either, but for the wife unit, H-E-L-L-yes...she coast around in her big ol 4runner trail edition with lockers/Kdss/crawl control/and all the other crap she will never use, keeps in ECO mode while coasting away from lights and stop signs to better fuel economy, documenting every tank.
Drives me nuckin futz !! she averages 22mpg in the thing while pissing off motorist behind her.

I'm excited to get her this car if she likes it...:: hell the dealer is offering us 31.5K on our trade.

I think the same way you do...I personally couldn't own a prius as my car but I got one for the wifey and I must say, getting 500 miles/tank is mighty addicting.

I agree with you guys. I couldn't drive one, at least not right now. If they made them better looking that would change it for me. Either that or put it the hybrid drive in the Corolla S.

When they can have one with 300 HP and 35 MPG, I'll buy one.
