But ya the real difference between new engine and older engine (*minus the new new intake/header) is that they have new surface treatment on the cam lobe, valve, piston etc + reinforce the block itself.

I'm pretty sure the 2018+ models (*2017 in NA) is more tuner friendly if you are looking to FI it. Just nobody know how much more it can take comapre to the older engine.

It's true that the sum of all the differences nets to the 5 horsepower that the majority of people are fixated on. However I've heard (rumor & social media so I'm not entirely sure) that the new manifold allows better airflow and sees proper gains with turbo'd applications, as well as the reinforced engine block has made making more power before failing (IIRC, some company like HKS or someone made more power out of a 2017+ block than the older block). Again, these are just hearsay and no sources I can cite :/

So while the 5 hp gain is minuscule, there could be more beneath the surface than what we can see from website spec sheets.

I was looking at the diagram that shows the sound tube (turquoise) attached to the air intake system (magenta) and wondered if the sound tube was calculated into the system in the same way as the resonating chambers. I completely removed the sound tube from my BRZ and installed a 1.5" plug. I have not noticed any deficit in performance. The sound tube from the air intake hose to the sound tube diaphragm does have a specific length and volume, so I just assume that it was engineered into air intake.
