I'll second (third ?) the recommendation for an SUV of some kind. Old people are much better at stepping up into a car.

My wife just got a new Rav4 and I have to step up to get into it. A new-ish used one would be a good bet.

My vote is Forester. But why not consider any of the other Subarus? The Impreza wagon and Crosstrek are only a little smaller but much cheaper.

Have you driven a Acura MDX? (2007 or newer specifically) It has 7 seats, lots of room, good power (300hp), AWD, and drives really nice. IMO, it would be a great vehicle to drive your family around in.
