Oil Filter, Which and Why?

Here's one from almost 6 yrs ago.. when the "blue" (skinny & tall) filter was still black in color..

I don't think this is the exact one I remember but seems to have hella info (not all specific to our car since it's a Forestor though. We used the same filter as the GD WRX/STi)

I just found a thread on the NASOIC page showing an oem BLUE subaru filter cut open which had the exact same construction as the fram. thread was from 2009 i believe but still... scary stuff.

those actually got recalled by Subaru at one point. They were made by Fram/Honeywell

i mean its more advertising and marketing and the whole capitalist system than our country. without going way off in the deep stuff, fram is just marketing and some cardboard

Of course it does ... the first round blows the exit hole ....the rest of the rounds quietly follow that exit ...

The filter element comes apart quicker on poorer quality filters and you loose your baffling faster. Long filters for diesel motors work the best

Generally I use K&N because it's the "best" filter available at the auto parts store when they run their oil sales. If I remember, or stock up its a factory subaru one.
