I will have this and hopefully the Perrin crank pulley installed by late September (I have to install at home) and I will definitely report back with pictures and impressions.

Thanks Brian!

All -

Take a sneak peak at what's in development between now (revision a.1) and next weekend which will include a longer pipe by 2 inches extending the filter into the air box and a heat shield surrounding top, bottom, and rear of the K&N filter.

Both the BRZ and FR-S will be running this enhanced system for further testing.

The intake has a nice suction intake sound, the growl is back, and definitely a very noticeable increase in revs and acceleration. And no CEL so far! <- we need to do high heat testing to make sure this is a viable system.

Stay tuned!

Brian

Extending that filter into the OEM airbox? That might be something I would be interested in.. keep us updated!

I really don't mean to sound like a ****, but any proof this provides a gain and isn't harmful to the engine? Have you done any before/after dyno tests? I'd be interested, but I'm not in the habit of buying garage parts with no backing to their claims.

I'm not selling intake systems or full kits. I am not authorized to do this. This post is a DIY for someone to build their own kit. I am not competing with any manufacturers of intake systems but helping the community with alternatives. As soon as I have access to a dyno, I can assist with numbers to help out. Remember, what I am doing is a part of what most other manufacturers are doing (minus dyno and A/F bench and other ECU or A/F tuning tests).

Yeah I understand that, just might want to save yourself the trouble and not make claims to power gains without any proof. Forums are a nasty place. The only reason I bring it up is the slightest changes in intake size/positioning can have profound effects on the behavior of the motor.

Nice writeup though, I'd love to get a car on a dyno before/after. Let's get P&L to host a dyno day :P

FYI - Driving on this revision of mod all weekend and have been very pleased with performance and bad ass sound. Lots of people have been taking pictures of the car and were surprised at the intake mod I put together was so professional. Lots of thumbs up. I've got enough raw pipe material on order and will have two of the intake delete pipes remaining and two of the open air intake pipes remaining, both available and not accounted for regarding our own R&D if others might want to grab them and try this DIY themselves. I don't anticipate there being another revision after next weekend as the revision I have now will just be extended fully into the airbox and no MAF issues as cool air is blowing directly on the intake from the stock bumper CAI opening. PM me if you're interested in either flavor of the pipe.

Just a quick question for whom ever can answer. Why does everyone seem to be removing this piece? does it add some performance to the car with out the sound box? Or is it just because they just don't like how it clutters the engine bay?

From what I have seen, there is no proof that it adds or removes any power or performance. Mainly just to clean up the engine bay AND because it's kind of stupid to "manufacture" engine noise and pump it into the cab.. alot of people want to hear their engine and exhaust but dont want it to be fake like that.

There is some high end BMW or Merc out there that blocks out so much outside noise that the audio system simulates engine and exhaust noise through the speakers.. pretty dumb.
