clearcoat doesn't really fade anymore and its more to trick the eye because there are so many variants of the colors, when the clear appears darker its because they put too many coats on more coats more noticeable.

The clear coat doesn't fade but the pigments under it do. Not like the old paints that is for sure (there is some UV protection in the new clear coats) but they still fade. Especially in Florida where the OP is.

Maybe should've brought this up before but he did say I could buy the parts myself if I wanted to but when I looked them up, while cheaper online, shipping is ridiculous. If I ordered them at a dealership so they still charge shipping? They haven't ordered the parts yet as far as I know because he was going to call me when he ordered and I never got a call

Another alternative would be to see if a local auto wreckers has what you need. You could even luck out and get the right colour that matches very close and avoid paint.

youd be surprised how little fade you actually see these days in cars, now with our cars it may be a bit different the clear may not fade but just blow away with the wind.

Great now, this is stuck in my head, somebody queue up Kansas....

I closed my eyes only for a moment, and my paint is gone..
All my paint passed before my eyes, damn Subaru

Clear in the wind,
We all lost our clear in the wind...

Same old song, just a drop of water, no paint to see
All we had crumbled to the ground, though we refuse to believe...

Clear in the wind,
We all lost our clear in the wind...

Now, it won't cling on, Subi paint don't last forever hitting earth and sky
It chips away, and all your money more paint will buy

Clear in the wind,
We all lost our clear in the wind...
