Back on topic:
Advisor: Your regulator/motor are fine, turns out there were glass shards in the motor gears. The regulator needed to be recalibrated too. Also something else is broken and the part is BO, so we'll keep the car for the weekend. Oh we don't have any loaners either. OKTHXBYE!

Thieves and vandals have existed since before the spoken word and will never go away. You can string them up as much as you want there will just be new ones to take their place.
