What's really frustrating to me is how expensive premium still is compared to regular. Our regular is down to about $1.95, premium is still $2.81. That's a 44% gap which used to be more like 20-25%.

I paid in Sacramento $4.63 while in school a few times. Imagine then!

Americans complaining about gas prices is hilarious. Prices around me right now are about 88-90 cents per liter for regular, 96 cents to a dollar per liter for premium. So long as it doesn't go above a buck thirty for premium, I'll stay happy

I remember a few years ago some gas stations were in trouble because prices went above $5 and the pumps were unable to display/handle that.

I usually complain they are too low, becuse gas taxes are ridiculously low, and often have not been adjusted for decades, despite cars getting better mileage so paying less and less in taxes while doing the same damage to the roads.

So I am not happy that I can buy a full tank of gas for less than $20, and then I drive on roads with worn out lane markings and bazillions of potholes.

Yep when I first got the car 91 was $6.04 a gallon. Now it is about $4 so that is great. And DO NOT apply the exchange rate to that! I am paying in Canadian dollars in Canada so the exchange rate does not reflect value just currency differences.

Unfortunately the low prices that seem so great in the short term are part of what is kicking the crap out of the Canadian economy and causes grief in the long term.

Luckily my job hasn't been affected by the down turn in the oil sector. Thank god for existing infrastructure.

This is a sore point with me in Ontario. They tax the crap out of fuel for "road work" and then take those dollars and throw them into the general funds pot. Then they do not do repairs because there is not enough in the budget. Mind you most of roads are actually pretty good but some work has been postponed for financial reasons for decades.

We are hiring for our new plant in Windsor and I bet half of the applicants (100s of them) have recently returned from out west due to lack of work. It is said to be pretty bad out there right now.

Similar here @Tcoat.

We have 77 cents per litre of direct and indirect taxes on our fuel so even if we were given refined petrol for free it'd still be $0.77 per litre.

At the moment for 98 octane our fuel is $1.90 per litre or $7.19 per gallon!!!

$7.19 per gallon?! Wow. I would be curious to see how Americans would react to prices that high.

To give perspective (that could be the equivalent in value to a much lesser number elsewhere) what is your minimum wage there, presuming you have one? What does a can of Coke cost?
