Sorry but I don't check this forum very often and see someone asked about an oil cooler. My car has since been fitted with a cooler since my original post on these gauges.

The sensor adaptor plate comes with a new centre bolt that fits onto the OEM centre bolt to extend the length. If you add an oil cooler then you will have to account for the extra length required to accomodate the thermostat.

So with a little home engineering I used another OEM centre bolt and cut it to the length I wanted to make it all work. I didn't take any pictures, but it has never leaked or failed in any way.

This car although road legal, it's mainly used on track so anything I do to it has to be reliable.

If the livery looks familiar to some of you, then that is because it is modeled off the original 2000GT from 1967.

The gauges are 60mm and the supplied wiring from the sensors is very generous. I had to bundle it up with a cable tie. Can't say I tried getting it the the pillar, but I think there should be enough yes.

Individual gauge mounts also come with the kit, so you don't have to use the centre plate like I have. Therefore you could mount the 3 gauges on top of the dash where you want them and leave your stereo in place.

good info there tech! i thought the only way to install those trd gauges was to remove the radio! nice!

i'd rather keep the stereo and use one of those triple gauge pod/mounts that are slanted so they are facing the driver that are available for the blank dash panel above the glovebox that im sure everyone has seen. the only thing im wondering is how you would get the buttons to work with that gauge pod mount? drill holes for the buttons?

idk if you still have individual mounts provided? if so could you provide some pics to get an idea of what the gsuges would look like mounted on top of the dash.

appreciate it man!

I'd love a smaller version of these, they are huge, then again they are for a specific type of driving. I just don't want vent gauges or pod mount. Limited choices out there for my want's. :]

Here are the 3 covers that came with the gauges. Also 3 separate bags containing the tilting base, screws, sticky pads etc. Sorry you will have to imagine the gauge in them as bit of a mission to remove a gauge for a picture. Hope it gives you some idea of how it would look.

thanks for those pictures tech!

the mounts dont look bad. 👍

however you're right, where would the buttons go?

unless you have to forego the buttons if you use those spare mounts? and im guessing that if you do, you wouldnt be able to use the various modes that can be used with the gauges you mentioned in the first post (remembering peak values, warning values etc). so basically the gauges would work like old school gauges and only display the current readings? that is, unless, once more, you drill holes somewhere to make room for the buttons.

*obiwan beard stroke*

...very interesting!

thanks once more tech! cheers!

Here is an alternative and you could drill some holes for the buttons, but personally I don't like it. Having to look across to the other side of the car. Might be ok for street, but for track work nah.

With mine I only have to move my eyes breifly to get an update. I have fitted a cheap single din stereo in the space below the heater controls and it works fine, but to be honest I hardly ever listen to it. I use the USB socket that is on the front of it to charge my phone.

It's worth pointing out that this car does NOT have a push start button, and is a normal key in the ignition type 86. To be honest I prefer a key to a start button.

Here's another one. Get rid of the cheesy phone holder and fit a single din stereo.

@Tech - where did you route the sensor wiring through to the interior?

There are two large rubber grommets on each side of the engine bay. One is behind the battery. You could use whichever one is the easiest for you.

You will notice in the first picture that there is a sealed (hollow) rubber tube sticking out. I cut this off and fed the wiring through. The rubber seals around the wiring nicely and goes straight into the interior.

Easy as...

Again PLEASE NOTE, this is a RHD 86 so the grommet I used was the LEFT one which goes into the passenger side. There is nothing there apart from the glove box and easy to get the wiring over that into the area where the gauges are. I assume the same would be so for USA cars if you used the right hand grommet.

There is less access on the drivers side (RHD or LHD) with the steering column and speedo cluster to contend with.
