We actually have more problem with the NASA TT crowd than anyone else, and most of them aren't driving Hondas. The worst example I can think of was a Sentra SE-R with the drivers seat and harnesses using 1/2" washer "backing plates". I've had batteries in the hatch (in a gutted car) held in with *velcro*. I've had relocated batteries come through held in by the wiring connected to the battery and nother else.

Once someone brought a Snell M70 (as in 1970 cert) helmet through tech.. I had to laugh at that.. where the hell does one even find a M70 helmet?

I use my BRZ in Time Trials, and it is my daily driver. A lot of drivers out here do that combo. Some groups, like the SCCA, require a roll cage in order to move up to the next class. So, some really don't have a choice even if the car isn't going to be put through road racing and will be on the street.

If the car will be street AND track driven, then you are wise to do a back-half cage. Even if it's a bolt-in, it will improve the safety of the car, plus you can then run 6-point harnesses and race seats. This is all a great safety upgrade. Keep in mind, though, that this must all be done as a package! Don't put harnesses on your stock seats, or harnesses and seats with no roll bar (back-half cage). It all needs to go together.
Someone gets it

CAGE or BAR

big difference.

If you build a cage, then the occupant must be securely fitted in his or her seat and not be allowedto move during an accident. This means proper bucket seat, 5-6 point harness, helmet (obv) and now neck restraint systems are becoming mandatory as well.

In addition to this, since you are locked rather firmly into a position, you would require aproperly installed fire suppression system since your escape time has increasedquite a bit. You would also be smart to install a detachable steering wheel anda fuel-shut off mechanism.

So unless you’rewilling to drive with a full system during the city driving, you may end uphurting yourself more should a street accident occur.

the real sad part is though that you figured to get a cage before reading up on the physics behind the thing.

For me, I'd go with bar. There's no need for a full cage. I just want to make requirements for the next season. For people who just want a cage to have a cage, welp, that's a waste of dinero.

The only roll bars I can find immediately is the Cusco 4 point. Are there quality roll bars out there for our cars besides that one?
