Im running a full catless 3" on my turbod jetta and wont be doing it again. The smell alone is embarrassing enough esp when youre sitting at a stoplight. I dont fell other people should have to smell my gas.

I don't know about you but I love the smell of E85 in the morning. Am I still destroying the earth with E85? What about if I'm sitting next to some douche in a 4x4 blowing coal? Who's the asswipe now? How about all the Hot Rods that come to hot rod nationals? Whos the bigger douche? Me or some 5 liter monster putting out just a smidge more HP than my 2.0 liter? Seriously? COme one guys. I'm reminded of the South Park episode where all the prius drivers in San Francisco are smelling their own fart like their shit don't stink. Get real.

I'm catless with a muffler delete. I love it. LOVE IT!!! Just because some crappy ass designed shit makes you get rasp, doesn't mean all catless stuff is going to cause rasp.

I try to make a rule, never speak in absolutes (And yes, I realize the irony in my statement as well as the joke within.)

I notice he wasn't cruising behind you and choking on the stink and the carbon monoxide.

Jesus whats with people? This car comes with two cats, so theres no reason people should be going catless except for them being cheap bastards. If youre gonna go catless header (which most are) keep the cat in the front pipe. Im gonna be running a catless revworks header, but am planning on putting a catted Nameless front pipe when I upgrade that from stock. Obviously if your state has no emissions by all means go catless and save the money, im speaking more towards people who live in places that smog.

Thanks for your concern. It is not illegal where I live. And in the grand scheme of all the pollutants in this world if you think the catless 6000 miles I drive per year is gonna be the "straw that breaks the back" for our environment we are pretty well already fvcked, wouldn't you say?

Can we get back on topic please? I don't think this thread is about an environmental debate.

Here's the topic and it's not a good idea for the reasons i've posted, including tiny power gains over a quality HF cat.

Is going all catless on a na fa20 motor such a good idea?

You could use your argument to justify anything that's illegal or anti social.
I'm only stealing a small amount that wont make much difference or it's only a small amount of old chemical shit i'm dumping in the lake.
Make that 10% of the US population with that attitude and you have 30million + ****heads making a huge difference and spoiling life for the majority who are responsible.

It's pretty disingenuous to shame people for going catless when "high flow cats" drastically increase emissions. And I mean drastically. They have poor precious metal loading and they don't light off for shit.

You're hurting the environment too. At least admit it.

You may well be correct that a HF cat increases emissions but drastically?
Perhaps if it's placed too far from the headers?

I doubt that difference is anything like the difference for a HF cat, correctly positioned, to catless but if you have info to back that up I would be very interested?

For the record I still have both stock cats. The only exhaust mod is an axleback but I do have a HF catted downpipe + overpipe I haven't fitted yet.
I'm not trying to shame anyone but I am trying to point out that there's a good reason for emission control equipment. Some works well, some is questionable and you have to wonder at the rules that spawn them?
For what they cost and the brilliant job they do, catalytic converters make sense.
