Its fairly high current -- it's the same circuit that lights the reverse lamps. Your camera (via the 6V converter) and HU will draw very little current from that circuit.

Hey guys,

I've been trying to follow the wiring diagrams here to get my 2016 OEM reverse camera working with my Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS head unit.

I've got the reverse signal working properly to put the HU into "camera mode", but there's no video signal and I suspect it's because the camera isn't being powered.

I've purchased an NTE962 6v voltage regulator from my local electronics shop in hopes that it's a proper substitute for the L7806 mentioned earlier in this thread... if not please let me know.

I've spliced the V-in (pin 1) of the regulator to the red 12V power wire on the main harness and run the V-O 6V output to pin 11 of the 28 pin harness. I then ran the ground pin from the regulator (pin 2) to Pin 20 of the 28 pin harness.

When I test the output of the regulator, both the input and output pins are measuring 12.93V... I don't understand why. I also don't have a background in electronics engineering so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Also, what do I use to convert the OEM usb port into something I can plug into my headunit? The AX-TOYUSB does not match up with any OEM harness in my 2016 car.

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CGQRIFG"]Just use this[/ame]. It comes in a nice aluminum housing all silicone sealed. Not worth the trouble trying to build a regulator.

Purchased, thanks. I'll post an update when I get it installed.

Also, have you been able to utilize the USB or AUX port in the 2016 BRZ? Or do you recommend just buying one of the aftermarket replacements and popping that in.

Admittedly I never bothered because the USB and AUX ports are in a rather ignorant location, and I stopped working on integrating everything since I have a much larger project in the works at the moment. Not to mention they don't provide enough power to charge my phone so I end up using the 12V in the center console. Microphone I decided not to even attempt since there's a mic amplifier tucked away somewhere and I'd rather not smoke it on accident.

I haven't seen a USB adapter that fits the new Starlink directly, now that I look at the connectors again.

My headunit USB does provide enough power to charge my phone as well as offer iPod playback over USB, so I was hoping to integrate that with the built in OEM port to keep the OEM look. I guess ill just route a cable from the HU to a hole somewhere myself.

It's probably this connector.

Whoops, broke my clock somehow.

Yeah that was my guess too, it has four pins just like this useless AX-TOYUSB adapter I have does. If I could de-pin this stupid thing I could probably make work but it's very stubborn.

Finally got the reverse camera working. It was a combination of multiple issues.

First off the NTE962 voltage regulator wasn't working right (don't know if it's defective or if I'm defective, I'm going to go with the latter), so I ordered the encased pre-made one recommended from Amazon above. Now I have a 6V wire for the camera.

Second problem was the pins I had inserted into the 28 pin harness for the camera input RCA +/- were ever so slightly loose in the holes apparently, because when I jiggered around with the wires the camera input magically started working. So I bent the pins upward to create a bit of counter-pressure and then wrapped some tape around them for good measure. Good to go! Thanks guys.

Yes, the plug in Luftwaffel's picture is the end of the car's USB harness that plugs into the back of the OEM head unit.

Metra's new AX-SUBUSB2 adapter (which I have available) is the correct one.

The older AX-SUBUSB is different and not the proper one for 2016 models.

Don't hold your breath. I bought the Series Blue dash pieces. Not fun and it was 160. However, I will say I like the Series.Blue carbon fiber pattern more than ours.
