Yeah, from a high level perspective it seems like a lot can be done if one is anal about finding out the nitty gritty of usage and modification on cars these days.

What specific test do you get done by Blackstone?

I'm sitting here since a month, breaking my head over a good tire setup for the track, mostly erring towards a staggered setup to bring more grip to the rear but without trial and error I really won't know and then there's a part of me that just wants to get whatever and head out to the tracks just to have fun.

Yep, that's how I recognized the name and asked! You have/had a wrx/sti as well right?

I have them do the standard test and tbn everytime.

Depending on what you're going to use the car for, square setup might be the best bet (road course, etc) no reason to stagger if you don't have the extra power to use the grip.

I'm sc'd 245whp currently and I run square. 255s, but square.

Yep, used to have an aspen white 08 sti that I sold and got the frs. Still have my Legacy 3.6R. What is your user name over at mnsubaru?

For tire setup, I run square 225's, mainly because I can only run stock rim width in my autox class. If you're going wider, do you have adjustable suspension? As gopher boy said, stock 86's don't make a ton of power so you shouldn't need extra rear grip (to dial out oversteer). So I'd say run a square setup and adjust handling balance with strut settings (if your suspension is adjustable).

Fair disclaimer, I don't have a ton of experience with other tire widths yet, but I will say with square 225's in a sticky tire (Bridgestone RE71R's), the frs is much more neutral.

Ps...going back and driving on the stock tires after sticky tires is a ton of fun. Hello drift action! Lol

Honestly, I'm not even pushing the car to it's limit with the stock output but almost always get the tail snapping out. I'm planning on getting Michelin pilot super sport 235/45 r17 for the rear while still running stock in the front on all 4 stock rims.

This would be my first experiment.
Next, I plan on moving the super sports to the front and go wider for the rear with some rpf1s for the rear and experiment.

If your going to go staggered, you at least want the same tires model so they perform predictably. Stock front tires and larger rear pss are going to understeer like crazy.

I'm not at all active on mnsubaru. I don't even remember my password for a couple usernames I created because I forgot the previous ones. But I keep browsing the for-sale threads to buy stuff now and then. I also ended up buying my 11 WRB STi that way, last year!!

And yea, I'll probably have to roll the fenders and or stretch the fenders to accommodate the 235s although it doesn't seem to me that the 2cm is going to add up to that much width.

Guess I'll only know after I get it and test it out.

Although what you're saying is all true, I'm still thinking I'll have a car handling like the one close to a 50:50 distribution as compared to the 53:47 stock. And that might just be all I need to keep the car going on sharp corners. Don't you think it would work?

Nice!

And I don't think you'll need to roll fenders for 235's...pretty sure I've read that people are fitting 255's without rolling.

And really, I think all 4 of the same tires, square, will be best. Sticky tires do a lot to dial out the oversteer. Appreciate it the oversteer though, because these things rotate much better than STI's!

Haha on that note, I tried drifting the sti just the second weekend after I bought it. Dailed the dccd knob all the way down to push power to rear wheels, turned the traction control off and even with a wet parking lot it was hard to drift that monster!

The FR-S is sooo predictable and comfortable for sideways action!!

I'll just say this. Ive have three sets of track tires Dunlop - Z1ss, Z2, Z2ss and knowing how that worked on square setups (245 and later 255s) I wouldn't spend my hard earned money like that.

But, it is not my money

My 255s (17x9 wheel) fit on tarmac 0s with 10mm spacers in front. My rpf1s are 45mm offset.

Well my plan is to try them out for the rear, if they don't work like I want it to, I'll then move them to the front and go a little wider with pss in the rear and see how that goes. The whole point here is experimentation and in the process, learn how the setups affect handling. If that purpose is met, it's money well spent in my book!

Let's talk about local classing for a minute. Realistically if I went FI I'd immediately shoot myself in the foot from being competitive in any class, yes? Basing this purely off MNtimeattack classing.

I'd be in "Limited Heavy", that same as evos, and other cars allowed to make similar upgrades. I mean I might be able to compete in some drag class with stock interior and weight but.... straight lines.

Matt, Im sure you did research into the local classing and whatnot before supercharging. Did you come to same conclusion and decide to just do it for fun?

Some of the other cars in limited heavy per the results from MNtimeattck
