I don't understand why scion does this. as we know the iM is the Toyota Auris and it's been around quite awhile, so why add all these new parts that won't make it to production on a car that's already been in production?
Ha scion is not the only one remember the wrx concept and then the 2015 wrx people were super disappointed me being one of them.

They all do it. Some just worse than others. In real life some of those concepts would just be too expensive to actually take to production without a huge price increase.

that is true but the new WRX didn't already exist prior to the concept's reveal.

The Current Auris had already been released in the UK and Japan before it got announced for the US, Scion just put concept parts on it.

So... Who's going to start the group buys for Toyota badges?

I thought the third new Scion was to be a mini SUV/CUV. The lines and emblem placement of the one you posted appear to be more like that of the C-HR concept.

If you look at the lines of the roof, you'll see more of the same lines as the blacked middle portion in this pic:

You can also see the reflection of the overhanging roof in the glass in the pic you posted.

You could be right about that, but one think prevents me from agreeing 100% the C-HR is supposed to be a hybrid, and Hybrid SUVs tend to be a little on the costly side, which isn't in line with Scion's way of doing things.

They could drop the Synergy drivetrain and call it something completely different. Or they could make it an inexpensive SUV hybrid and stay in line with Scion's business motto. I know the cost of the upcoming Rav4 Hybrid, and you'll be quite surprised on what the "premium" is over a non hybrid Rav4.

also true

either way I'll still be emailing Toyota to bring the S-FR to the states, just to be sure.

1. Unlikely, the 86's Macpherson strut has enlightened me to it's limitations, I really want my next performance car(s) to be full double wishbone.

2. Hard to say, $12k USD in Japan could come over as cheap mid teens, I bet ~$20k OTD for low to mid trim (don't tell me Scion only has one trim, when you can add options up to over $35k)

3. S660, superior layout and suspension based on what we know today. If I had to pick one as my only car for many years however S-FR may have the practicality to win me over.

So is the S-FR gonna beat the F-RS on the track like the new Miata has in several head to head test drive comparisons? The F-RS is gonna need a bigger power upgrade than the one talked about for 2017.... just say'in.

Not everybody concerns themselves with track days. I am suggesting for most people track performance isn't on the radar.

I am guessing for a lot of people no auto means no buy. That is, they wouldn't even consider a manual car.

That's what they claim for STI & S2k... but reality, if they want one, they'll make up excuse to buy one

My answers:

1) No! I wouldn't trade my Charlotte for anything but a MY201X if it came with a turbo or S/C by a miracle.

2) Price is going to be $20k+MSRP.

I say $17k or so from manufacturer and $3k because it's RWD and 6spd. That's my self factious breakdown of price. Oh baby, if it sold for about $17k base model!

3) I'm going with S-FR over S660. Toyota biased and I prefer the egg look+old-school look.
The meme in your avatar is pretty much my reaction to your post.

1. It's hideous.
2. "Front struts, double wishbone rear" = not a fact. That's exactly how they advertised the FR-S. My bet is on the suspension being directly pulled from the FR-S or very similar to it. You guys know what this means? It's NOT a Miata chassis. They've been working on this car for at least 3-4 years now. They JUST partnered with Mazda recently. There's no way this is a Mazda chassis.
3. It's going to be an extremely underpowered Corolla engine. Not exciting at all.

S660 = mid-engine, better dynamics, a whole different car altogether.

BOOM.
