Compared to most cars the FT86 is a sub-compact car .
I've known that for a long time...mainly cause I have an AE86 sitting outside and this car is basically its twin in dimensions (for the most part).

Tiny car is tiny.

I've never imagined that the FT will have functional rear seats. The only one riding back there will be my dog.

I've always assumed the backseats will be worthless, given how smaller this car will be.

wow...this thing really is that tiny...I'm just gonna go ahead and replace the "back seats" with a small custom box and make some kinda storage unit to hold stuff.

Considering I'm in the market for a 2seater this works out.

Eh, the back seats are probably as "functional" as the Celica's. And I like mine.

Mainly, I hate giving other people a ride, but it have come handy before. So I'd rather if I have to give more than one other person a ride that they be uncomfortable and never have to sit in my car again.

Yeah I'm a **** like that. But I still rather have the back seats than not.

Ive never had a problem with the celica back seat. No one other than my dad (almost 6') has ever complained about the space in the back. I'm 5'7" and I'm feel fine back there.

That said I hate giving rides to more than one person. The only people who sit in the back are my brother and his friends and hes gonna use the celica when I get the 86. I mean I MIGHT keep the back seats depends on how much I like them asthetically/functionally. But if they arn't worth sitting in I'm gonna design a storage unit/sub encloser.

+1. You don't buy this kind of car to haul around the neighborhood or your co-workers. The only thing the rear seats would be holding for me is a backpack. Actually, a "2+0" option would be fantastic. The Lotus Evora has a factory rear-seat delete option the knocks off a few dollars and installs a simple storage tray instead of seats and belts. I wonder if a "4 seater" is cheaper to insure, however.

considering this car is slightly smaller than a civic I was hoping the back seats would be a decent enough for ppl to get into for short rides

I was 4 seats for sure just to have the ability if need be to drive 4 people

It's likely the rear seat room won't take priority like it does in a sedan. I would expect to see rear seat knee room comparable to the MINI or Fiesta or Infiniti G37 coupe or BMW 1-er; all of which are knees-in-the-front-seatback tight even for a 5'9"er. No bodybuilders or footballers in back, and those that do fit will likely only tolerate it for a couple minutes.

You have to remember the dash-to-axle ratio is aggressive, with the front seats pushed relatively far rearward. Add in the low roof and sloping fastback and you end up with not much volume for rear seats.

Rear sear delete it is then. =)

Besides sub enclosures, what else would you guys put back there? I don't see it being aesthetically pleasing, so I'd probably layer carpet over it or something of the sort.

I always wounder in myself why most new age coupe cars have a non functional rear seats??? I mean see the SC430, the new IS350 coupe, the mitsu eclips,,,,ect?

When I had my 86, it was somehow easy for my friends to set on the back seats with no issues but with modern cars is almost not possible Why?
