Where at in NC?

We got our BRZ Limited new about 2-3 months ago. Have about 2,600 miles on it and no major issues. I *think* we may have crickets, but that's about it. Listening to that guy and reading this forum can make you paranoid, let me tell you...but like I said, so far nothing major on ours.

Congrats and you should be excited for tomorrow!

The fact that so many people have modified these cars but I have read next to nothing about dealers giving them shit about it.

And I have no prob paying for premium. Had a Mazdaspeed 3, a Mazdaspeed Protege, a supercharged TRD Tacoma, etc all required 91+. My 2013 Tundra that will get a s/c when the warranty goes only gets 91+ and real non ethanol when I can get it. Hell I've got access to 100+ if I needed it lol, it doesn't hurt my friends family owns gas station.

Can't wait to get the car tomorrow. Clear bra went on Tues, 35% tint went on Wed and the dealer called today to let me know its inside the detail bay and will be cleaned in the morn and ready by noon. Will be ordering a small sub/amp combo and a CAI on Monday. Still researching exhaust. Thx for the info.
You must have run into Regal at the gas station.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Break the car in properly and do regular maintenance. Maybe you'll have issues, maybe you won't. From what I can tell, I don't drive my car nearly aggressive enough as my DD to have issues, but maybe at 60k miles I will. Nobody really knows. I have 9k miles with the only issue being tail light leakage.

I can tell you that in hindsight I don't regret the car at all. I wish there was something similar in my price range that I liked, but alas, there was nothing, and here we are.

I also think the "crickets" might be blown out of proportion... the HPFP does make a decent amount noise in normal operation; almost like a very loud valve tick, but from the driver's side of the engine right where the HPFP is located.

The crickets are absolutely not blown out of proportion in my experience. On my second HPFP and have notified the dealer to hit me up when it seems safe to get a third.

I'm not sure you know what the crickets sound like. The loud ticking.. Ok, that's fine I'm used to that. Sitting at a light sounding like you have a car with a bad belt from the 80s.. Not so much.

Lol you know that would be my luck. I had a guy in a parking lot in Charlotte make a point a week ago to roll down his window and tell me how much of a "fuc*king commie" I was for driving a Toyota truck and I was killing the American economy... To each their own. I've already got a list of five things I want to do to the BRZ by the time spring rolls around to the tune of almost 3k. Guess I'm not helping the economy enough?

I'm in the Winston Salem area. Have only seen four total FRS/BRZ's around there. Have seen more than double that in the Charlotte metro area but a lot of them with South Carolina tags since the border is so close.

I am on my 3rd Tundra (07, 10, 13) and I have NEVER had an issue with Toyota as far dealing with the dealerships/warranty. Had the pedal recall on the 07 and 10 and both dealers went out of their way to fix the problem on time and correctly. One even gave me a rental car for two days while waiting for the backordered kit and detailed my truck to say sorry for the inconvenience. And an ECU issue thinking all the gas I was using was E85 killing my mpg, I videoed the CEL and what it was doing and they got the green light for a reflash in one day. Problem solved.

I'm stoked, its my first subi product and I can't wait to add things to it. Wish I could take it to the track day at VIR for coffee and cars Saturday.

I guess I wasn't really clear with what I meant. Yes, I had crickets to at 800 miles and had the HPFP replaced, and could hear the loud chirping from inside my car, and seems to be a prevelent issue, but I think there are many people who hear the normal HPFP ticking noise and immediately think they have crickets.

I have met three FRS/BRZ owners so far who heard about the cricket issue, went under their hood and heard a "ticking" sound (which I believe is normal operation of the pump), and claimed they had crickets.

Very funny. Its amazing how defensive this forum can be when anyone mentions an issue with the engine.

People should be supporting victims of this problem instead of burying their collective heads in the sand.

If the guy at the gas station was FOS what were his motives? Most are lying about their problems and quietly selling their car, "Yea it runs great that noise is just how they're supposed to sound."

I don't see how 2012 build date cars have any resale with Toyota deciding not to upgrade the ECU.

Yeah, because our Super Intelligent and informed "average joe" will know ALL about ECU flasehs and shit...

The total people who even have any idea about this car let alone issues on it AND on top, DI seal failure when compared to all car buyers is so low its not even worth mentioning. Oh wait!! You expect no engine to survive 50K miles or so!

Although, I'll give you this. You by yourself might be able to change the world and educate/inform everyone about it.

Well it was enough for them to change the ECU calibration. Why they won't update the 2012 owners is frustrating.

Was talking to an FRS owner last night I saw at a gas station about his car, how he liked it etc. He acted like the car was nothing but a basket case, that SOA was worthless, that I've made a huge mistake in buying a BRZ etc. He directed me to this exact thread. So I spent several hours last night (using the search feature) and reading the related info.

He told me not only has his cricket problem never been fixed that he has CEL lights that randomly show up and has had the DI issues and Subaru doesn't want to fix anything on the car. He popped the hood, it was bone stock with 8k on it. I only had two test drives of two BRZ's to go off of but it DID seem a little louder than I remember the cars I test drove. Sounded odd, just rough sounding... He told me that if these cars are driven over 5k rpms it was going to ruin the motor. Oh and that basically Subaru is the worst company on earth to deal with as far as aftermarket parts and would void my warranty for ANY modification that were not OEM or Subaru approved parts.

I stopped him about the mods. I'm a mod guy and always do things to every car I own. I've had jeeps since I was 16, none have been stock. My current 06 TJ (last of the inline 6 cyl) had 28 miles on it when I got it home and removed every piece of the stock suspension, installed a intake system, installed two Optima red tops, winch bumper, etc. Ive been to a more than a few Jeep dealers and I have NEVER been denied warranty work based on modifications. Im am VERY familiar with the Magnuson Moss Act. I feel he was bs'ng a little on that side of the story but I don't know - this is my first Subaru product.

So WTF was this guy on about?

I take delivery tomorrow around noon/1pm. Before I sign anything should have them give me the version of the software the ECU has? I'm not sure of the build date. I was quoted $1000-1500 for the gold level extended warranty to 70k, should I get that even if I don't plan on keeping the car for more than 3 or 4 years?

I understand break in of new cars, I'm not going to stick a 100 shot of nawwzz on it and be stupid, I'm 32. If I wanted a fast car I would have got an STI - but I don't want to feel like I'm driving miss daisy either.

Is this just all getting out of hand, has ANYONE at Subaru responded about all these "problems", should I just drive the car and hope the f*** it doesn't blow up?

TIA for the info.
The whole story sounds like BS. Subaru cannot do warranty work on a Toyota. The guy, for whatever reason, was yanking your chain. There has been a fix in place for the DI issue for cars built sometime around January of 2013. If you are buying a used car, you would want to verify the calibration file before you buy, if it is a new car, just look for the build date.

Crickets are an issue, but for me they come and go even on the same tank of gas, and have not been noticeably loud even when I do have them.

Aside from that, I love this car and it has been rock solid and I pretty much live in the 5-7K rpm range.

Look, there are always going to be issues and horror stories with any car. If you like the car and it feels right, I would buy it. If you are still not comfortable with it, buy something else.
