So, I end up with 3 major choices for the platform as it sits right now:

1) turbo / supercharge the car - I have spoken to MANY major manufacturers directly. Including some that SELL their own kits for this car. The stock motor does NOT like F/I. Every kit, whether mild or not, is a crap-shoot and the motor needs a build and GOOD tuner. This is the easiest choice to go by, but you're either out of motor, or stuck with a rebuild.

2) Engine swap. There aren't that many kits out right now to make this easy as can be, but it is still being done and you could preserve a fresh stock motor if something WERE to go wrong. Even a relatively unmolested 1JZ would do major good in this car with a mild turbo - while maintaining reliability and, did I mention you get to keep a fresh, stock motor if something goes wrong?

3) This is the waiting game option. Even the 350 / 370Z took till now to become a relatively affordable drift-car option. But it had just AS explosive (if not more so) aftermarket support from vendors and manufacturers as this ZN6 / ZC6 chassis. Maybe we are still too early to see its full potential, but every day I drive my car to work, I dream of hearing a better engine running in there....

but all I hear are...

Attachment 71603

p.s., I still love my car. Don't get me wrong. It is my first "light weight" car based around handling / having fun and I am doing just that. But just as some of you are criticizing people posting about power complaints (which I can understand is annoying to some of you), I would like to wager and say that driving ANY car absolutely stock and being happy with it, doesn't really make you a "car guy" either.

In regards to point 1. Given time this cars been out there how can you or these manufacturers etc say that? There are several people past the 20k mark boosted zero issues. Proper install, good tune and remaining somewhat civil whp #s seems to be fine??

I was a bit uneducated when I bought my FRS and didn't realize it was a Subaru. I was assuming Camry/Tc type engine reliability and it just doesn't have that. I mean it has a Scion badge which at the time was in the top 3 for reliability, now its last.

All though am happy with it so far. Is it just bad luck, abuse, what is causing these major engine failures.

I'm confident we will figure it out.
that's all you needed to say in this thread.
: happyanim:

my only request for the refresh is the Ts upgrades and GullWing Doors. I know it's unlikely but if they could make that happen....I'd buy.

This is a ridiculous, ignorant statement. A wager you would lose.
I suppose its wishful thinking on your part since you sell aftermarket goodies.

There is something wrong with the people who dislike the stock FR-S/BRZ and need to "fix" it as much as some seem to, not us.

I am not speaking as a vendor, I am speaking as car owner. If you guys are happy with the car completely bone stock, that is great for you! You save money and avoid this curse / mod addiction. I envy you as a matter of fact.

I feel that major of people who like to tinker with their car love to expand its horizons whether it's something small from brake pads to tire upgrades all the way to forced induction. There is a trade off with everything we do after the fact. No matter what, you will sacrifice some form of safety, engineering, reliability, etc. unless everything is in an ideal condition. It is just a sad fact. Just like adding a turbocharger to a non-turboed car and saying that it will never blow up... I hope that never happens to you - but can I 100% guarantee it? I cannot. And I think any manufacturer who says they can, has my business. Every reputable company has openly discussed that the motor needs a build to be reliable. If you want to bolt-on a turbo for 20 horsepower, then maybe we're talking about different scenarios, however.

There was no disrespect towards anyone who likes to keep their car stock! I was merely stating that the other side of the coin of car-dudes and dudettes are people who want to maximize power (people during some parts of this thread were getting hostile at anyone mentioning more power).

Tinkering with cars, or any machine for that matter, is what makes them beautiful from the beginning to me. Engineering at the OEM level is amazing of course, but if I don't change SOMETHING and experiment during the entire life of the car, it's not fun for me. Just my opinion.

So true. When I bought my 97 Supra I thought the stock power was awesome. Then every year the power would grow with more mods and more boost. Until it was more double the amount the stock car came with. Then I realised that for all the power it had I'd lost the balance. It had become a handful to maintain and most of the modifications would pass emissions. I ended up selling it.

I love having an NA car now. The temptation to mod NA just isn't there. Besides putting on a set of headers and an intake there's not that much you can do besides drastically changing the car's internals or fuel setup.

Now that we are about one week away from start of production for MY2015. I am left to wonder if there will be any other changes announced soon for the 2015 besides what we already have heard, (sharkfin, bolts, colors, dampers, new carbon style trim panel).

And of particular interest, I wonder if we will (possibly) see the rumored "Tada tuned" 86 handling option, as pictured below which included, 18" forged BBS wheels, Direzza ZII's, and Sachs dampers. It definitely appears the wheels are on the table and upgraded dampers.

Looks like the wheels and dampers are available to buy on the revised Japanese 86 website. Reading through the news and running it past my Japanese native friend, it seemed to imply that the "tuning" package was part of the update but so far in New Zealand at least thats been refuted.

Once the first Japanese cars come out in public in June, we would have a better idea what we can all expect (usually something a little less than the Japanese would get)

Wish those rims were an option over the current factory rims at launch
