Its a great kit for those looking for more adjustability than the Koni Sports and with the durability/reliability of Bilstein!! All of the kits are valved and built in-house by Guy Ankeny (long time Penske builder for countless SCCA nationals champs).
Are adjustments for both rebound and compression on the top knob? Or is one on the bottom of the shock somewhere? It is hard to tell from the photo.

That bleacher was starting to get scary with all of the weight on it, I felt it wobbling. Thanks for posting the pic. It was nice meeting a bunch of folks at Nationals. CS really is a kick ass class.

Hah, I was wondering if anyone was going to protest the full replacements or if the trunk foam was removed. I'm glad they didn't.

I am still skeptical about the full Koni replacements being 100% to spec, but there is no information or data to suggest they are not legal. With that in mind, we might as well run them and get as much camber as we can. These cars desperately need it.

As for protesting anyone without the trunk foam, 'just because you can, doesn't mean you should' comes to mind.

On top for the rear, on bottom for fronts as they are inverted. Blue for Rebound and Red for Compression, I think...

Haha, just turn them until it feels good. 10 positions on each, meaning 18 wrong positions. I soooo want to justify a set of these.

Shock tuning isn't rocket science. I learned that if you want to get the hang of shock tuning, you need to start with a good set of double adjustable shocks, where every click actually does something and settings are repeatable.

CS was a lot of fun this year, great meeting everyone, and huge Thanks to Brian from HI and his friends for some good cold craft brews before hitting the road back to Detroit. The final runs with Fenter and Ogburn were pretty special. Great heroics by Dave to end up with the overall win. I think I was most impressed with Dave shifting to third gear four times on day one. I've said all year long that shit doesn't work, and he obviously proved me wrong. I changed tires on day two looking for some miracle speed and totally went the wrong way. Anyone else still going much slower on new RE71R's compared to 2/32nd tires?
Test N Tune was 39.1 on 30 run 225's, but the tires were very easy to drive on, and had good feedback, but I ran 38.7 on the 120 run 235's , and tires essentially made zero noise and felt vague (I saw two of Fenter's runs, 38.8,39.0). I went with the old tires for competition on day 1, and went for it with new tires on day 2. Day 1 the tires still felt vague, and the car was pushing, and again, no noise. usually zero noise from street tires means they're cycled out, and I did have 120+ runs and 8k of street miles, so I figured it was time to run the new tires on day 2, seeing as they're shorter and have better gearing. They weren't fast. Car felt fine, but the times were just slow. I don't get it. I tried the test at a local again last Sunday, and the old tires are still over half a second faster on a 40 second course. 35 run tires to essentially 135 run tires. Anyone else having these issues? I can't imagine my car is that much faster on 235's compared to 225's, but the tires don't even feel somewhat similar AT ALL.

It was good meeting you Sean and it was fun/hair raising to work the course with the CP and DM cars.

RE: Tires. One of the guys from our local club just put on a new set of RE71R's for nationals (ES MR2 Sypder) and said he was struggling to put down a fast time also. I think he only had ~400-500 street miles on them and that was it. He is typically top 10 at local events, I think he was barely top half at nats. So perhaps the deeper tread depth on a new set is the problem.

I've got about 3-4/32nds on my current set that I'm burning up in a couple weekends at a TNT and local event. Then I'll be putting on a new set for the last couple events of the year and I can post my experience.

There may well be something to the age/depth of the tires having an effect, but the bolded is far from a unique situation. Both years I went to Nationals, I took home the Pro and DOTY trophy locally. At Lincoln? Out of the trophies. It's a big pond, full of all the big fish from their respective smaller ponds.

Yup. Nationals can be a massive reality check.

Oh yea, I know...shouldn't even have said that because I know strong local performance has very little to do with nats. But he has been to nats many times before and is normally in the trophies. Here nor there, the key takeaway is that he mentioned a difference in the full tread, new stones and not being nearly as sharp as the worn-in stones.

I've been on the Konis for a couple years now, but what are my other choices right now?

I could switch to the full-replacement front Konis, MCS, Bilstein... I know there's been mention of Cusco shocks and the different re-valving options with each of the companies. I'm adding the TRD stuff next year and want to get closer to the pointy end at the big events instead of the last trophy spot or one out of the trophies...

I learned Nationals can be quite a head game after my first trip last year, but I tried to make realistic goals this year since I was in someone else's car and on BFGs instead of the RE71R I ran all year. The car was good and BFGs were fast but I had a bad first day which cost me. I hope the third time's a charm next year, and maybe in my own car!
