Yep and thats the way all sports/super cars are going. If this supra wants to run with the new incarnations of its old friends from the 90s, its going to be priced up there with its new friends.

If it does go that way, then I just don't think it'll be worth the price. Don't believe me? Look at the Lexus LFA.

Hybrid tech has come quite a long way, but still has a lot of room to grow (and cover) before it could be applied to the Supra (IMO). Like the Porsche 918, it would be amazing in respect to the innovation, however, I do not think the hybrid integration would be good for the market scope and/or the price of the Supra successor. It is just not a good idea to increase the price of a vehicle to cover the cost of a technology that the market of that specific vehicle is not interested in, or sure of. Personally, I would hate for the Supra successor to end up like the LFA. Not in price, of course, but in market approval. I hate to say it, but I hope they wait a bit longer for the Supra successor. The technology would be improved, hopefully cheaper, and hopefully more people would be interested then. Just my $.02

it'll be 80 grand. if toyota does it. it's going to be in the GTR/corvette/viper league. the sad part is they will probably have a hit because of toyota's following in the import world.

i just don't think they want to enter that realm. it's a lot of money.

I agree, its price is likely to be in the league of the GTR and therefore out of my league. I will never spend that much on a new car (but might buy one used 5 years old...). It's why I love and own my BRZ.

New Toyota Supra in the works! NSFW

Quote:
This year will mark the 20th anniversary of the fourth generation Toyota Supra. This coupe unveiled in 1978, was a more sharpened the Toyota Celica at its beginning but actually based its identity in the mid-1980s. This well-known sports could be back in the near future.

Prominent Japanese automobile heritage, the Supra has been the flagship of the Toyota brand in the sport for 20 years. Virulent, its last line equipped with a six-cylinder Twin-Turbo 320 horses received the mandate to rub shoulders with the Porsche 928, no less. In addition to its extraordinary performance for its time, this archetype of the Japanese sports car offered a very pure design that still attracts the eyes today. A significant car for Toyota who has promoted its image in The United States and North America.

Its revival would be the logic of things. Akyo Toyoda, president of the manufacturer, has not hidden his desire to revitalize its brand, often shown the finger in this chapter. Implementation of the fascinating Lexus LFA and more recently the Scion FR – S, a pure sports car affordable, testify to the new philosophy. Ingenious, this strategy to diversify the offer without hunt the utility models in the range. It also benefit Toyota consumer perceptions and nourishes a nostalgia for the older models.

The Chief Engineer of the Scion FR-S said this week on the web site Singapore Asia One that Toyoda would like a new Supra and, as soon as possible. With respect to the formula used, nothing is cast in concrete. It could be hybrid and even see its engine to the centre and be equipped with all-wheel drive according to rumors that circulated earlier this year.

Perhaps will we witness the birth of a direct rival of the new Acura NSX. Whatever the result, we feel a breath of fresh air that may soon blow into the neck of competitors well established in select niche.
