  The original Toyota Celica (or Supra) of watches. This is a Seiko 6139, which is arguably the first automatic chronograph model made. Story goes that Zenith announced first (early 1969) with no demo, but didn't sell until the end of the year. A (TAG) Heuer led team effort announced second with ~100 prototypes handed out to the media but sold mid year, way before Zenith. Seiko's founder congratulated Heuer at their sales launch, even though they had been selling 6139s to the public in Japan about one or two months prior to Heuers first deliveries. Rather polite of him. He then proceeded to nearly annihilate the entire Swiss watchmaking industry a few months later with Seiko's quartz intro. The Swiss industry was only saved by a government bailout that supported monopolizing their industry. This one is a 1972 model with 17 jewels and needs some restoration. (New crystal, hands need cleaning, new lume). Mechanically everything is good, except it has a replacement crown that won't turn the inner Elapsed Time bezel (for manually tracking past 30 minutes on the chrono) and the day wheel is mis-aligned. Also since it is only 17 jewel, that means everything to do with the chrono is steel on steel, which needs rather precise and proper oiling. I got a service quote from a watchmaker before I picked this up and it will be ~3x what I paid for the watch for clean, oil and regulate. Not even counting the crystal, crown and date! Price of owning a vintage watch I guess... Edit: and some previous knob owner drew a terribly not round border around the chrono minutes counter with a black marker.
