Now there is a caveat to this, if you make over 26.99 per hour, the company is NOT legally required to pay you time and a half, they are still required to pay you straight time.

Yep, it's 40+ hours a week in the U.S. that triggers OT. You could conceivably work a 24 hour shift, followed by an 16 hour shift, but not work for the rest of the week and your boss still wouldn't have to pay OT. Also, that is actual hours worked, not counting something like a paid holiday. If you work 39.5 hours plus an 8 hour paid holiday in a week, they don't have to pay OT.

For real??? Unless you have an averaging agreement (I do at my job) in my part of Canada that's 16 hours at 1x , 8hours at 1.5x , and 16 hours at 2x. Legal minimum. We have OT past certain hours per day, plus past per week. Companies have to pay if either are exceeded.

And for my averaging agreement it's in our benefit. Week 1: M-Th 9h/day, F 8h day. Week 2 M-Th 9h/day. 3 day weekend. 80h/paycheck at straight time.

I saw an idiot in a Honda Odyssey cut through several left lanes as well as the opposite lane above 50+ MPH in a residential area just to be the first person at a stoplight.
