Random Thoughts - Part Deux [NO POLITICS]

So... one of the staff who I was suppose to be training called to tell me, she gonna coming in late cuz she's taking her mom to ER. Is it just me or if her mom need to go to ER, is there a point to coming in to work? (for 5hrs) Training can be done next wk and it's not like she'll get fired for not coming in or not taking this training today. I was going to tell her, don't worry coming in... but she hang up the phone before I can say it, so whatever.

Some places aren't so lenient. "Your mom's in the ER? But you're not, right? So why can't you come to work? You do still want to work here, don't you?"

I would send her a text and tell her that her mom going to the ER is more important right now, so you'll understand if she just can't make it today and you'll pick up her training when she gets back.

After talking with a couple very respected deck folks in the area, turns out that, at least according to them, pressure washing is about the worst thing you can do to a deck if the problem is more than just dirt, i.e., lichen, mold, fungus, and other organic stuff that is usually what is staining your deck dark green or black. The pressure-washer forces those nasties deep, deep, deep into the wood, and just makes them all the more difficult to control.

You did mention that you didn't like using the various deck cleaning products due to breathing issues, but I think you'd be better off using a good respirator w/ appropriate filters and WetNForget or other deck cleaning/treatment product of your choosing than w/ a pressure-washer. The results don't appear right away, so it's not quite as satisfying in terms of immediate gratification as a pressure washer, but your deck will last a lot longer and look better in the long run.

Thanks for the information. However, I've already blasted the hell out of it with a pressure washer and sodium hypochlorite, which, by the way, is a powerful killer all kinds of nasty stuff.

I agree that new decks, properly cared for and treated, shouldn't need pressure washing, however, my deck was about 10 years old when I bought the house and wasn't cared for all that well.

Now, to apply the water seal/transparent stain ......

That's another days project ....... my retirement motto is "never do today that which can be put off till tomorrow" .......

It could. If I was having that problem I would take them off. If you don't like it you could put them back. They are simple to take on/off. Even easier on a truck

That would involve taking the wheels off,I assume? Sounds like a lot of effort since I only have the emergency jack here

Most I've seen are a couple bolts on the backside. A truck you could probably slide under and see, but all cars/ trucks are different.

Might look into it soon and see. Could always just take em off for when I'm going to just be going to site, then put em back on for road moves if it's not much effort.

I would give it a try. I took them off my 1978 ero GTI because they looked stupid with the big (15 inch) BBS rims. I did it on my rodeo because the same issue you are having when out hunting. On the GTI it made a big difference in the rain, on the rodeo not so much. I would pull them off ( not cut) and if problem put back.

Oh yea, some times the bolts for the shields are on the inside and you have to take the rotors off to take off. pITA.

You may discover that the rocks are getting wedged in because they are already bent away from the rotors just a little.

If I were to discover this, I'd remove them, straighten them back out with a bench vise and/or an anvil, and reinstall them.

Hmmm, it sounds like taking them off is the path of least resistance versus fixing them.

I know what I'm doing.

If that wasn't clear enough, I'm going to continue playing video games and having a beer or two every night instead of even looking at the thing.
