![]() Really. Get new canisters. Or better yet just buy some N95 rated dust masks and call it a day. They will be plenty enough for what you are doing.

Good suggestion ....... I'll stop by the Army surplus to see if they have some new ones.
Besides, my old ones are most likely filled up with nasty insecticides. NOW, they are claiming that Roundup is a suspected carcinogen ....... ![]() I have no idea of how many hours I spent spraying the oxygen analog of that compound, trying to prove efficacy, to get around Monsanto's patent ....... ![]() Between that and mixing lead paint as a kid, spraying 2-4,5-T (agent orange) in a T shirt and shorts and scraping asbestos off ceilings ....... I'm ...... ![]() Time for the kid run to the school .......... humfrz |

How important are brake dust shields, or whatever you call them? Rocks keep getting stuck between the shields and the rotor on my truck. Considering cutting them off

Not critical they just keep things cleaner a bit. I have had more than a couple rust off and suffered no ill effects.

Cool. Maybe I'll get around to it sometime. Going through mud, then getting under the truck to try and pry the shield away to get at the rock is tiresome

The shields are there to protect the rotors from rocks.

Me and my coworker were bombing down the 403/401 on the fast lane like 3 in the morning trying to get home from work. Everybody on the hwy was scared shitless with all the crazy water pooling around and it was pouring hard.
Sometimes I think the BRZ is too communicative it always feels on edge, while his Golf R was going flat out on every ramp and curve I decided to be safe and stayed back. But in reality I could have probably take him on no problem lol! |

Just remember in wet conditions your brakes will be wetter. You get that brief second of no brakes, like first lap with cold race pads. |

Seems like a shitty trade off. Maybe I'll just keep doing what I've been doing in that case

@humfrz I'm sorry I didn't see your deck-washing post earlier, although it would have been too late anyway. I've pressure-washed my deck before, and it came out looking great.. for about the rest of the season.. then it was uglier than ever before.
After talking with a couple very respected deck folks in the area, turns out that, at least according to them, pressure washing is about the worst thing you can do to a deck if the problem is more than just dirt, i.e., lichen, mold, fungus, and other organic stuff that is usually what is staining your deck dark green or black. The pressure-washer forces those nasties deep, deep, deep into the wood, and just makes them all the more difficult to control. You did mention that you didn't like using the various deck cleaning products due to breathing issues, but I think you'd be better off using a good respirator w/ appropriate filters and WetNForget or other deck cleaning/treatment product of your choosing than w/ a pressure-washer. The results don't appear right away, so it's not quite as satisfying in terms of immediate gratification as a pressure washer, but your deck will last a lot longer and look better in the long run. Just something to remember for next time...
