Yes clamp it!! Ronnie can attest to it. Mine came off and the turbo ran like shit! Not sure what spring I have. All I know is that everything is built in.

There is a thread showing that you can remove the AC compressor to reach the hoses. I need to do this myself for future turbo possibility.

I know sportsguy83 here did it by removing the AC compressor. I'll see if I get to that while I'm installing my kit. Thanks.

Yes it's really easy. There are 3 bolts that hold the compressor on. Also make sure and disconnect all wires. And you'll need long pair of needle nose plyers.

Hell of a deal on the JDL Single Scroll Turbo kit now with the 15% off. Even with the GTX turbo and the thermal coating.
Really wish I could afford one right now. |

I might pick up one of their catted FP's to replace my Invidia catted FP. Originally wanted the JDL one. I've heard different front pipes can change the tones of exhaust based on material used. Also, the JDL is 2.45" in width unlike the Invidia which is roughly 2.3" so it's a tad smaller and made of a different material.
Performance wise I probably won't get much change, but the sound may liven up the Q300 slightly. That and I would love my entire front half of my exhaust to be JDL. |

I'll eventually have to go full 3" but need to save for that as the kit alone got me smelling like burnt rubber lol.

Rather than trade my BRZ for an STi or something faster, I'm thinking of going turbo and keeping it since I really love the car except for the low power. This is a car my fiance and I share as a daily driver, so it needs to be reliable and easy to drive. Also, not sure if it matters for this purpose, but it gets driven all year and is running snow tires currently. I have a few questions regarding this kit as it seems to be very nice quality.
- I like the idea of making around 250rwhp for purpose of reliability and keeping the stock clutch. I also feel this is ideal for the chassis. Is this kit overkill for me or can I get a setup (perhaps base turbo?) that will fit that mold? - In the idea of keeping it a nice daily driver, I was thinking of JDL catted front pipe and overpipe along with the Invidia Q300 cat back. Would that be a good way to go? - Does JDL offer an oil cooler option? I've heard this is required for FI on these cars. If not, is there one that is preferred to go with the JDL kit? - I will not be installing this myself, about how many hours would a shop typically charge to install this? For all parts; turbo kit, exhaust, cooler, gauges, tune and install I'd like to stay under $7k. Hopefully that is realistic. - Is the standard a-pillar pod with boost and afr (and maybe oil temp?) the most popular choice for the 86? Or are there some other clever mounting options? Thank you very much! Bill

JDL turbo kit thread
Well as far as the exhaust goes I have the same one you mentioned so I'll be able to comment on this. The oil cooler is not required but recommended, I myself will not be installing one yet. Most shops will install this for about 1k at least around my town, that includes oil replacement and all the price then depends on what options you get but JDL Is one of the best for the money out there. I think what you do need is a map sensor 3-4 bar and a catch can. I think their base kit you're good for about 275whp at around 7psi. I think Moto-east has an article where they show dyno sheets and this is all with stock fuel and drivetrain.
Here it is http://www.moto-east.com/main/jdl-br...o-kit-results/
