Talking

Hey Guys! I'm finally reaching out to the community after having owned my Red BRZ for 14 months or so. Located in Hillsboro, OR and see other 86's all the time.

I haven't been much of a car guy but have really been enjoying my daily driving and doing some HPDE at PIR and ORP. So much fun. Now I'm stretching out of my comfort zone a bit and going to try doing my own brakes. Found the DIY tutorials here on the forum and they seem really helpful.

Anyhow, since the other owners appears to be closed, I thought I'd just post here.

Have we traded rubber? Last events I went to was Track Night at PIR on the 26th, The Ridge on the 16th, and ORP on the 19th. Were you at any of those? Anyhow welcome!

Are you thinking of changing fluid, pads, rotors, or getting a whole new setup like a big brake kit? I'd recommend the AP Racing Sprint kit. Most of the guys on here, me included, could help you with any of that. Speed bleeders (steel/aluminium not brass) are a great thing to have for bleeding the brakes. Feel free to browse my build thread for what a fellow red car might look like with various mods.

Just a suggestion... before you put a lot of money in aftermarket mods like BBK, try swapping out the OEM brake lines with stainless lines and swap-out the OEM brake fluid to a higher-end (hi-temp) fluid.... bleed well. You might be surprised how much better the OEM brake setup can be -- especially if you have swapped out the OEM wheels for lighter-weight wheels and reduced unsprung weight at the four corners. If that doesn't cut it.. then continue the process by replacing with better pads...and then possibly all the way to complete replacement of rotors, calipers, etc..

Good luck! The journey is almost as fun as the results.
