Looks like the next GTR could possibly not be constructed/scrapped:

http://www.insideline.com/nissan/gt-...ot-happen.html

If this is true, maybe this would make way for this new supposed car?

the gti isnt going to compete because its trying to fill a different market. things like the itr and msp are down on power but still are comparable . im not saying i think this thing is going to be a competitor to the frs, im just saying we shouldnt be judging cars that dont even yet exist
The new GTI will compete its sheading some and getting more power with a serious suspension overhaul...

The gti already competes with the frs. fairly certain it has more whp and tq than the frs.

I'm sorry but the GTi has been so far behind in terms of "expectations" that it needs to be released and tested thoroughly before it gets even close to getting a seat at the table

The last 3~? GTi/Golf releases have been complete let downs in terms of what it said on paper vs what it actually did...Especially the most recent "omg look at the torque this car makes" Gti and it's instant brake fade combined with handling characteristics of a paddle boat.

If there is ANY car that Bench racing should NEVER be considered valid for it's that car, considering the Civic slapped it in the face when "statistically" it shouldn't have a chance...

Pulsar NX

That render isn't awful but FWD is a deal-breaker for us.

It's more complicated than that but that is some of it.

At least where I grew up (North Carolina, reached driving age in the mid 1970's), it was also a status thing. Less than half the kids I knew had cars, so having ANY car was a big deal.

When you had ANY car, that also meant you had to be a gearhead just to keep the car on the road. In addition, nearly every car (and all those in a high school kids price range) was rear-wheel drive and usually with bald or balding tires.

Basically, cars when I grew up were the gaming consoles of my youth. It's what your friends and you did, and your life centered around it. If you didn't have a car, you found someone who did, and that's where you hung out.

That sounds like a great childhood!

Too bad my friends are more worried about what wheels to put on their civics than actually begin to understand mechanics and other fun things to love about cars, not just the "show" factor.

No need to be sorry. I didn't realize we were discussing these cars strictly around a race track. For everyday driving, cost, and power, these cars are very similar and compete for buyers. If the frs/brz hadn't been so much more $$ (about 7k more) when I had to replace my car I would have bought it.

right. no way it will look like this.

It's funny, nissan has never really had a lightweight (and FWD) concept. They're more rwd/awd and high power inclined

Nissan developing Juke-based FR-S/BRZ competitor

Nissan developing Juke-based FR-S/BRZ competitor

to plug the gap below the 370Z in its sports car lineup, Nissan is reportedly developing a compact, front-wheel-drive sports car to do battle with the Scion FR-S/ Subaru BRZ.

Known internally as the Mini-Z, the small coupe will use the Juke crossover’s platform, a source close to the situation told Motor Trend. Power will come from the Juke’s 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, while all-wheel-drive (based on the Juke’s system) with torque-vectoring could be an option to help the car better match up against the rear-drive FR-S/BRZ twins.
For better or for worse, the Mini-Z will reportedly thumb its nose at traditional stylistic conventions in the same manner as the Juke. Expect a radical look outside of the sports car norm (although perhaps not as wild as the Urge concept, pictured above).
Notably, the project is a joint Japan-China effort, with Japan doing the heavy lifting in terms of development and China handling design and data assembly. China will be the car’s main market, and it will also be offered in Japan and Europe. A decision on U.S. availability has not yet been made.
Development on the Mini-Z is well under way, with a launch possible as soon as late 2013. Look for a base price of under $22,000.
