Why does the Japanese always feel they have to pick an animal / monster to model their products after.

You mean the majority of people looking for a "cool"looking car? While the elitists on the internet have deemed body kits taboo, the general public still considers flashy body lines and wings to look "fast/cool". The front bumper covers on Priuses look pretty crazy right now but they keep selling them... why? Because that's what their market research has proven that people want. The new 86 looks more "fast and the furious"than the first one. I suspect the 3rd gen will look even crazier

Then they would buy any number of other hybrids on the market. The Prius is a long way from the only option any more. Yet people buy them. Additionally, market research isn't done by changing one car and setting if it sells. Surveys of the target audience will develop that information long before a car reaches the assembly line. Just because you don't like it and think other people shouldn't either doesn't mean that's not the way it is. I hate coffee but everyone still drinks the stuff

North American "port installed options", aren't an option??
I'm looking for a new 2017 86 with *no* installed options, "bone stock".
I've been informed by a local (USA, south east Florida) dealer that items like e.g. a rear spoiler are "port installed", and that if I wanted I could place a deposit for an order and these items will be "removed" at the port prior to dealer delivery? 1) I'm not comfortable with e.g. a rear spoiler being removed on a brand new car, at the port or otherwise; and b) is this true? i.e. that it's impossible to get 2017 86 factory direct in the US w/o any port or dealer installed options? |

Why do those wheels look so tiny? And why does the offset look so terrible? Also the wheel gap looks huge! It may just be the angle of the pics, but everything I mentioned looks way worse than any other pics of the new 86 that I have seen. |

I suspect it's the same as the first version you're just used to seeing aftermarket setups. The stock wheel gap is MONSTROUS

I'll admit I don't like the front of the new 86 but the TRD lip really makes it appealing for me.

Wheel gap was never an issue until cars started to look chubby with high hood and belt lines. |
