Depends on the property manager. Some are super anal and even if you take all the care in the world they don't want to risk adding another stain to their precious parking lot. Well, from a property owner's standpoint that is a perfectly valid rule, making exceptions for one careful person would open the door to accusations of discrimination if that exception is not granted to every other guy who wants to change their oil in that lot.

I understand that and I have changed my own oil more times than I care to think about. That being said, paying a trusted mechanic $15 and not having to deal with taking the used oil to Auto Zone or wherever for disposal seemed well worth it.

Trust me - it was only this time. It was either do that or go pick up the wife's birthday present. Didn't have time to do both before taking her (and the car) to Branson for a birthday weekend. As much as I might get shamed for not changing my own oil one time, I can more easily live with that than the consequences otherwise, if you know what I mean.

Yesterday I changed the oil and I put one whole container of 0-20 Mobile One and it is in the middle of the dip stick lines. Good for me. I'll check again tonight.

Let my car sit for 3 days before an oil change and it took exactly 5.8 quarts to fill. When I drain the oil I usually open it up and leave it alone for about an hour before I close things up and put new oil in

FFS people, read the manual...
If it's not at the top hole, it's LOW, period. It's not supposed to be between the lines. You're supposed to check both sides of the stick as well and use the lower reading. |

Today I had to make my girlfriend go make my oil change because i was in a recent motorcycle so I was unable to drive and do my own oil change. I tell her to buy 6 qt. and give it to our mechanic. When she comes back and i check the oil level and its super above the top level. She thought i said to put full 6 qt. I need some help! I want to drain half a qt but don't know how without having to go under the car or having to go back to mechanic.

.2 quarts overfilled isn't even going to be noticeable on the dipstick because of the size of the pan. Don't make me go measure the pan and do the math please... In other words, it's not overfilled, it's either a) you're reading the dipstick wrong b) it's not on a level surface |

I did oil changes myself for the first 2 changes and it took 5.5 and 6 qts to reach the top hole. So it depends on how long you drain it and how flat the ground is.
Currently my oil is about 1 cm above the top hole, courtesy to the dealer. there must be about 7 qts oil in there and the car is just fine. So no need to worry about this at all. |

Do people really not know how to use a dipstick on a flat level ground?
Or are they just new to cars? Not sure why this is even a thread.
