Spacers, though popular with other makes like VW, are a little questionable when it comes to safety. I have a set I'm using for trackdays on my WRX, was thinking about them on an FR-S, once the dealer gets a whiteout in stock. Thanks for the offset info! |

Think I might have found a good deal on these. If I get them they're the 17x8/114 so I'll have to get 25mm adapters. Should place the wheels nicely in the back and the front... well... worse comes to worse I have to sell them hahaha

My 2005 sti wheels were forged but certainly were not light.

Now, the reason I quoted Blaine up there was not to hammer him but to send a clear message about the BBS wheels. ~They're not the same~ as the later STI wheels OR the '11+ WRX wheels. Here's why; 11+ wrx wheels are 17x8 +53 .. and are around 20lbs each. 04 STI wheels are 17x7.5 +53 and are 15.5lbs each. Also as mentioned above the 05+ STI wheels are 5x114 pattern. Notttagonna fit yo ride. The STI wheels will give you the ability to run a 225 tire comfortably without need for spacers. Considering that I ran the 2011 wheels without issue nor spacers the slightly narrower wheels are fine. My current summer setup with the 11+ wrx wheels weighs in at exactly 45.5lbs per corner. My WINTER setup with factory FRS wheels and rather heavy General artimax tires weighs in at 44.5lbs. So by my math and using the 04BBS and a basic Kuhmo summer tire I'll be able to come up with a summer setup that is lighter and much sticker than the factory wheel/tire combo. ![]() now the tough part of finding a set of 04 STI wheels within reasonable cost in reasonable shape. lol Last edited by mangostick; 01-20-2013 at 11:14 PM. |

![]() Ran them on my car for a few months. Tires aside, they fit and look fine to me. You can't go too wide in the front though. These 235/45 Federals rubbed the strut in the front turning at full lock, and I'm guessing +53 plus tall tires caused that. These were a friends wheels I was borrowing because he has three sets (yes, 3!). Last edited by touge-n00b; 01-20-2013 at 11:56 PM. |

yeah that's what worries me about running a wider tire on a +53 wheel. Differences between brands have the possibility of not fitting. As I mentioned, right now on the 11 wrx wheels the 235 fits with a quarter inch of clearance.. but if I went from the kuhmo to say.. Nitto (that run a little wider) .. It would likely rub.
Not something I want to find out the day mounting and balancing new rubber happens. 225 is plenty fine for my uses. If I need to go wider for any reason I can always sell and go for different wheels. Thanks for the pic! I see that they rest in just about the same spot that the 11 wrx wheels do. I've been trying to visualize the gold against whiteout but no pics on the net of that exact combo on a FRS or BRZ. In case anyone was curious, here's a couple pics with the 11 wrx wheels. ![]()
