Not nearly as badly... a friend picked up a 370z enthusiast package and got 1.5 laps at TMP before hitting almost 280F.

Comparing the 86 which is a low power, lightweight car, to the 370Z, Gen Coupé, etc which are both heavy, high power cars isn't a fair comparison. Sure they're all performance cars, but its like comparing a Ford Raptor to a Camaro ZL1. |

Same thing with this damn recent trend of pumping artificial engine noise into the cabin. Yes, the twins have the stupid "boom tube". Plugging that silly thing was the very first mod I did when I got my BRZ, but this is even worse, because it's not REAL engine sound, it's manufactured sound coming from the speakers, like new BMW's have! WHY?!? I think part of what lured me to the twins was their purity. In a world of electronically-watered-down cars with fake engine noise and auto-rev-matching and all this shit, the FT86 still manages to be a very "pure" and "raw" vehicle that doesn't promise anything it can't deliver, and doesn't need a bunch of electronic bullshit to do so.

Bah, so many haters. The 370z and the ft86 are different cars w different goals, and both are pretty good at achieving their goals. The point of the twins is to have a fun engaging car that ignores lap times for driver fun. The 370z is about making an affordable modern sports car with great lap times. The 370z is the car that tada didn't want to make. The high hp, high grip, fat tires, good lap time, stable car that is not as fun to drive. It drives how most modern sports cars drive. Over driving corners is slow.
Some rebuttles. The 370z understeers fierce at low speed and if you overspeed into corners. That's why I think it gets a lot of hate. Because the closest people usually get to cornering limits is blasting around 30mph 90 degree right hand street intersections. Or overspeeding onto freeway onramps. The 370 is pretty bad at this. Remember, slow in, fast out. In mid speed corners, it is pretty well balanced and you can get the rear to come out w steering input. In high speed corners it has a tendency to oversteer if you don't give it adequate gas, and understeers nicely under power. I think the stock shocks aren't great, and the nismos may be over damped, so there is room for improvement. I don't think the 370z has as much of an oil temp problem as it does an oil temp gauge problem... Most street cars see ridiculous temps on tracks, depending on driver. The twins can get into the 270-290 range with good drivers as well. Corvettes infamously can get to the 300s within a couple laps. The 370z is just a rare car that comes with a stock oil temp gauge, so people actually realize what they are hitting. I'm not a fan of the fake engine sounds, but just look at Chris Harris or the reviews or the other 370 threads on this forum. One of the biggest complaints about the car is how it sounds. It sounds raspy at high rpm and doesn't growl like the older vq's. I'm pretty sure its because they are trying to squeeze 330hp out of the engine. Sorry, but good sound isn't always equal to fast. So people complained that it didn't sound sporry enough, and they could make more noise probably for engineering reasons, so you get what you get. In terms of synchro rev match. Yes it is kind of lame, but it is also sad because it rev matches better than any human can. You can turn it off if you want, and it remembers even when you turn off the car. It doesn't turn on again until you hit the button. In terms of track times they aren't even comparable. Not even in the similar category. The twins are about the slowest sports cars out there. They were designed for fun, not track times. Better tires don't really improve their times up into the next class, but definitely knocks from the fun. The Hyundai cars have also always punched mutch below their stats in terms of track times. All the generations of the genesis have been mutch slower than the Nissans they basically straight up ripped off of. The 370z track times is more in the realm of the Cayman, sti, and evo. The twins are more with the miata and fiesta. |

Fair comparison of the cars in stock form. What percentage of people that track their twinsleave them stock? I'm just an oil cooler away from where I want to be on the track. Maybe just slightly tweak the suspension for the optimal balance between over/understeer.
Also, I don't think the entry level enthusiast package is in full form for track, though I don't know what ll the standard items are. For boulevard cruising I'll 5me the twins, especially the FR-S. It has the best face.
