I read that it's more cost effective to just get a K&N drop in over the intake? What are your thoughts on that?

A UEL header will have more rumble to it, but there are a lot of threads on UEL vs. EL headers. Also, it will make your exhaust much louder. You might find that the N1 becomes too loud once you add a header.

You also need to remember CARB and emissions inspections as well. The OEM header has a catalytic converter in it, and I don't know of any aftermarket headers that are CARB-compliant.
I'm in California so i'm unsure of the emissions as I've only lived here for 2 years. I hope i don't find them to be too loud. Don't get me wrong i like loud but i don't want to overdue it and paint a target on me for the police. That is why i'm staying away from Borla UEL and looking at MXP UEL and overpipe combo.

California is psychotic about their emissions. I know they do a sniff test, and I'm pretty sure they do an OBD test and a visual inspection as well. You might want to go talk to the guys in the Southern California regional section before making your decision on headers.

Many have chosen simply to purchase an aftermarket intake tube and filter. The gains seen from that are basically the same as an entire aftermarket intake system.

Nah, you'll be fine with the setup you've got.

Even with adding the MXP headers and overpipe? What makes you say that?
