Just a small suggestion if you can figure out a way to get the audio to your ear
Podcasts

There's tons of them. It'll be high quality and you can listen to exactly what you want.

Good luck!

I listen to talk radio a lot also. All the AM radio stations in my area also have apps for android and iPhone where you can listen through your phone. Have you looked into that?

Hi fellas.

Once again, thank you for all your suggestions. A new auto radio shop has opened not too far from me, so I'm soon going to print this thread and take it there and see which ideas they recommend.

I will keep the idea in mind of using my phone to pick up AM broadcasts, but again, I'd like to use the BRZ's radio for range and clarity reasons.

So thanks again, and once I talk to them I'll let you know what they say.

I'm surprised no one has suggested this: Just keep shopping around until you find someone who will do it. Just because one shop says it's not possible doesn't mean it isn't. It sounds to me like the first shop you tried only knows how to work with plug-and-play components and doesn't really understand audio well enough to provide the custom application you want.

Maybe this new shop you found will be able to do it. If not, keep going until you find one that can.
