i have a passport, not sure what gen, maybe 2-3 years old and i was driving to work today and watched a bike cop on the side of the road aiming his laser at cars coming down the road and then i realized that my radar never alerted me to his presence. not sure what happened there, maybe i need a new one thats more up to date. i was rather disappointed to notice it wasnt going off when i was 10 feet away from him.

Lmao, interesting thread start.

Well, radar detectors are a big debate on many car forums. It really depends on what you feel comfortable with.. I've been a fan with Escort but I know friends that run the Valentine 1. I currently have the Escort 9500ci in my 2013 FRS and 2014 IS350. I also have an Escort 9500ix for my portable detector I used in my 2010 Camry SE. Reason why I use the 9500 series is because of the integrated database and false alert elimination.

V1 is nice but depending on the area you live in and the application I think the Escort is more friendly with cities and neighborhoods. There are other vendors out there as well but these two tend to stick out the most in the United States.

How effective is your model with instant-on/LIDAR?

somedays its killer other days it seems to be hungover... last week it waited to go off til after i had passed the cop lol in all fairness he was hiding in a grocery store parking lot. im thinking of upgrading because i feel it is out of date and it will probably stop working all together soon.

Yeah I just ordered the Escort 9500CI hopefully its good and updated because state police here are "a" holes when they see a sports car they point their lazers right at you or tail you for no reason. I speed at least 15/20 over speed limits.

Bought a Redline about a week ago, really happy with it.

Installed it below my mirror with a Blendmount, ran a cable through the ceiling, down the passenger column into the storage compartment.

Yeah, the 9500ci isn't a cheap detector/laser shifter. But if you think about it, these are used in all levels of sport, classic and exotic automobiles. It will do a great job as long as the operator is knowledgeable on how it works and on countermeasures.

Also, you can get a 2015 model with the new laser shifting package on eBay for $1350 and do a self install. Overall, best price and fun project.

Yeah man. Cops can be nice until they are annoyed or upset for some reason. I think you'll love the product. I've been meaning to do a DIY write-up on the install of the 9500ci but my full-time job and night graduate classes tend to take all my time :/. I can post pictures if you need some help on the install or have questions. Enjoy
