Well, I'm relatively young (23) but I have been with Bel-Air for almost 4 years now I think. So I think that might help.

Honestly, the only time they care if the car is modded is if you get in a crash and begin to claim replacements for your APR front lips that cost $1000 and JDM exhausts etc etc...

I wonder what happenes when you try to make a claim and your 86 has a ferrari badge...$300,000 value.

Well, you know, I'd hate to lose out on my exhaust and coils. That would suck

Agreed, but there are some really numb people at insurance companies.

One on end, I remember that somehow saying I have snow tires and steel rims was an "aftermarket modification"

That's what Im worried about. Well sir, you have this, this and this. Your new premium is 10,000 a year. When it would cost 2000 to replace all the aftermarket parts lol

Even with my exhaust, tint, lowering springs, bra and spoiler my premium was less than my 2012 Lancer GT. Don't know what the actual dollar amounts are since that is what the wife does (well one of the things) but like I said it was slightly lower. Now would it have been even lower still with out the extras? I would have to guess it would but not by much.

I'm assuming my premium would go up with actual power adders or if my mods were more than 5k. The things I didn't claim, like side markers, spoiler and roof spoiler are throw aways

They typically care about purely cosmetic things (spoiler, sidemarkers, etc). Suspension and significant power adders are the things they get worked up over.

Be careful with this. I was told by my company essentially anything can void a claim, even changing tire size/type for traction in the winter can be considered a "performance" mod. Also any aero (lip, skirts, spoiler) is under the same umbrella as power and suspension as performance. Some things are obvious, but others are ridiculous.

In the event of an accident with a modified car, your liability is in tact, but they won't cover your car and could deny future coverage. Tha's what my company told me.

Every company is different though, and insurance sucks balls. You need to have it, and when you need it, they screw you as much as possible.

Food for thought:

My car was hit while it was parked last winter. My dashcam caught the guy and I filed the claim immediately. Not at fault.

Bring my car in with winters, Tom's tails, white side markers, strut bar.

They replace the front fender and side marker with the OEM amber one, but also do the other side too. No fuss given. Got my car back in 2 days.
