So you want to tune your engine but $2k is too much?

Yeah, you should reconsider your priorities.

Option 2
you get to ecutek tuner and they flash it for you ie no cable kit required
700 flex fuel kit
300 ecutek licience
300 flex fuel tune

cons - you cannot flash/reflash yourself

Option 3
You get to ecutek tuner and they flash you a 4 map switchable tune
91/93/E30/E85
$300 Ecutek 4 map switchable tune
$300 ecutek licience

cons you cannot reflash yourself
and it always defaults to map 1 each startup so you have to remember to swich to correct map each startup with cruise stalk.

Option 4
Buy OFT
Free tunes included
you have flash device you can flash what you want
no licience required
tunes included for E85
if you get headers later you also get tunes for that.
they have tunes for their specific turbo and supercharger kits
cost $500

Option 5
buy Tactrix cable
do lots of reading tune it yourself
cost $170
@sales@delicioustuning.com is this correct regarding options 1, 2, 3?

It's okay, a turbo won't blow up the engine or anything. No chance whatsoever.

OP is safe.

to be fair he may just be sticker shocked by the outlay a proper flexfuel kit is when OFT can get you to E85 power for $400 used on the member's classifieds.

I love my OFT but keep in mind, the cheaper way comes with two drawbacks, one more an inconvenience (procedure to switch maps between fuel sources) and the other a potential disaster. The OFT method is not dynamic enough to account for variances in corn juice. One bad batch of corn juice can cause significant variances in trims, or worse, knock and potential for engine damage. N

OP do remember the usefulness of flex setups carry over into FI if you really are serious.. the $2k is nothing for the peace of mind and convenience of a true flexfuel setup is.

I run tactrix/openflash for my wrx with both petrol and E85 tunes (shoutout to brandon at XPT/Nastysoc) and one time had such a bad batch of E85 that I thought I was going to detonate my engine before I could even limp it home to jack it up and drain out. Never again did I go E85 on opensource tuning for FI.. not as much to lose with lower power levels or N/A but I was pushing that little EJ pretty aggressively, so I wouldn't risk it. Not on a subaru engine as finicky as the 205.

and when I FI this machine after the drivetrain warranty is up, I will be running a flex for that very reason..

I appreciate all the feedback. I guess the right thing to do would be to break everything in, purchase the EcuTek, and then wait a while before I grab the FlexFuel Kit. Wayyy after that work on my FI kit.

The standard Flex Fuel Kit we sell is actually $595, license we sell is $345, and cable kit is $350. If we flash it in person you don't need a cable kit, or you can use a friend's if you have any around that own a cable kit. Tune itself is $300.

Total cost for true Flex Fuel setup with cable kit: $1,590
Without Cable Kit: $1,240

Sincerely,

Zach

Although, maybe wait for 1k until the car is broken in...you'll wanna beat on the car with e85 haha, and the car is still new and EVERYTHING is being broken in, not just the engine.

now, sub'd for when people go off on tangents about what I just said!
