Yeah, was looking into blackvue but its pretty expensive and overheating issue.

Oh my bad lol, I was actually looking to getting a dash cam in the future anyways. Thanks for the advice though.

Here's a video of mine with a bus cutting me off at the 1:30 mark:

Note that the video from the device is much better than that shown; Youtube really compresses the video.
That bus driver needs to catch a beating. In their defense, though, you were playing Katy Perry.

-10 for Katy Perry music. Katy is only good if there is video.

I feel vulnerable without a dashcam these days. All my cars have them.

G1W gets my pick- although they have newer versions now.

Sorry Im dumb and never had one before, but do they start recording once the car is turned on? Or is it something you manually do? When it is recording and the card is full, does it automatically override older data?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, set it and forget it (until something happens). They turn on and start recording automatically once you start the car (or in ACC) and stop recording when turning the car off. The cam loop records so when the memory card is full, it overwrites the oldest footage and does this continuously. They're really as simple as that.

Thanks so much! What do you recommend for an affordable camera? The drivers in this town are morons. Sorry for thread jack.

As mentioned above, see https://dashcamtalk.com/. Scroll down slightly to get to "The Best 'Bang for your Buck' Dash Cams" section. You can't go wrong with any of those. I picked the B40 since it has a small screen and it's easier to make adjustments on it instead of having to plug it into a computer.

The Ojocam also has a built-in battery that last for a little bit (30 min or so) when the car is off. The cam can bet set to start when motion is detected. This is handy dor when the car is in a parking lot, you can get a recording if anything happens. I wonder if one could use a USB battery backup and have it always plugged into the lighter socket and into the Dashcam so that when parked and car off the camera will always be available in motion detect mode and the battery pack will be charging when the car is on.

An individual had their rear door open to traffic and I had to go around. If I didn't honk at a speeding SUV, it would have been a head-on collision. One side of the street needs to be a red zone. If it were darker out, it would have been even worse. I sent the vid to the association and community site.
I uploaded a video from my car dashcam to at the link below:
You should take this video to the fire department, police and town council and show them how dangerous this street is. Maybe take it to the homeowners right in the immediate neighborhood and show them this and ask them how safe they feel if there was a fire in their neighborhood and that the fire trucks can't get there effectively.

Hardwire kits that run on the vehicle battery with low voltage cutoffs are reviewed in the Articles section at dashcamtalk.com. You can find basic kits for under $10 on eBay but as the article shows, the best ones are $40. Might not be worth it if your cam has parking mode and a decent battery with motion record time set to 5-10 minutes for each event.

I agree. Human beings don't generally walk around with their heads tilted to one side, looking at the sky. Level the camera and aim it where you expect to see action.

I'm not really sure what's on the market currently but at the time I got a few of mine, the "G1W" was the best bang for dollar. It does 1080p and the night recording it decent. The key is night time recording. Many of the Chinese budget cams just don't handle night time recording too well. But the G1W does pretty well for what it is.

I run two G1W's - one in my MR2 and one in the wife's Lexus. The one I run in my FRS is a DVR-027 which at the time was the best budget dashcam until the G1W came out. It only does 720p and I'm likely going to use it for a rear window cam and get another g1w or whatever's good currently for the dash.

Just google "best budget dashcam" and a shit ton of stuff will come up.

Hope that helps.
