When I see that I think of a number of cars on this website and a ton of VW and BMW owners I see in Florida.

Sad destruction of cars

Honda has never said there would be no new sports cars, look at the NSX for clear evidence of that. However, they did make some comments (not through PR) that the light and raw cars they were known for are unlikely to ever return because they wouldn't be feasible. They were referring to cars like the old CTR, ITR, etc in those comments.

Definition by the dictionary

Sports car - a low-built car designed for performance at high speed.

High speed - moving, operating, or happening very fast

So a sports car is any car that is lower than standard cars, move faster than standard cars.

Civic Si is faster than the regular civics
Accord sport is lower and faster than the standard accord
Crz is faster than the Prius

So according to Honda they are the performance class of their vehicle

Idk if I agree with my own statement, but I wouldn't call them a sports car, it's a sporty car but not a sports car?

Same as genesis coupe, M3, etc
They are a sporty version of the sedan but idk

However, lotus, s2000, 370z imo it's a sports car
Frs? Eh sporty I guess

I believe sports cars are an unnecessary luxury, that most people cannot afford. Only the wealthy had sports cars but the industry gave the average Joe a chance to taste what a sports car feels like (MG, Triumph, 240z, etc). The Japanese started modding their mom's hand me down cars to make it in to a "sports car".

The poor will try to taste the luxury side of life, by mimicking a sports car feel with their econo boxes. I have a feeling that over time, there will be no more cheap sports cars in the market, and will only be existing for the few that can afford to have a 2nd "fun" car. The "enthusiast" will expect everything that a sports car should do + 100% reliability, comfort, power, good gas mileage, looks good, etc., Its just a pain in the ass market with no money involved.

Like in Japan now, people will "mod" their mini vans/station wagons/econo boxes for aesthetics only (who has money to go race at the track?) with LED bling, body kits, stance and wheels, so why even buy a sports car if its only for attention? I just don't see a good market for affordable sports cars, and is no surprise that these companies veto'd the projects to move forward. I personally wouldn't.

Yea I'm kind of worried this is where the industry is going as well. Young people are not as into cars anymore so sports cars are becoming more and more of a show-off-your-money thing. The only low end sports car with 2 seats that's survived the last decade is the MX-5. Everything new has big horsepower, big price tag.

A big part of it has to do with us not being out of the woods regarding the economy. Also young buyers are leaving school with a buttload of debt. More affordable sports cars will come out when the economy is great for everyone again.

turbo vtec

The thing is, the sports car thing is most appealing to younger males but the ones who are buying are the older people. The young man usually gets a hand down car, when a parents look at a car, they will pick something more practical, and sports car are out of the region of a car for the family.

This lead to older people not buying sports car, younger people not being able to afford sports car. Their only market is that one spot where wealthy people who is either retired and always wanted a sport car as an 18 year old, or the retired old man buying one for his son.

Even if sports car are cheaper, again it's more of a practical vs impractical thing. As you get older, you will meet more people and having a tiny sized two door with little to no room backseat is not good if you got to drive people or move stuff around.

When people see the car culture of Japan its just the next level. In Japan most people don't care about the car having 1000unicorns they care about the looks of a car. Yes they have the led thing, and the gauges and other things inside to make their car look like a high tech machine. But that's the culture around there, they all goes out to a car meet and just show people their art done to the car. It's not about having a super fast car to street race anymore, it's about time spent on the car and your passion for modding. Some people will call it rice, but others calls it nice.

I'd love to have the type R come out and would probably have the cash for one by the time it comes out. But it the source is from a dealer...that about as reliable as Fox News or MSNBC. One can dream tho...

I just bought my fiance a 2015 Accord Sport. The car actually does very well. Picks up nice, the "7 speeds" available in sport mode through the CVT (yes....it is still funny to me) actually work really well and it responds to inputs very quickly. It handles extremely well for a economy sedan. I have fun taking on/off ramps and twisties in it. Besides VTEC YO!

Unfortunately, the other than the Civic SI and possibly the S2000 variant they have speculated about since the S2000s demise I don't think anything in that department will happen. Hondas US brand is all about economy. The enthusiast niche is too small to make an impact on a company who sells hundreds of thousands of cars a year in the US alone. The performance/luxury will be held for the Acura brand. Can't step on the sales of a brand that somebody is willing to shell out 40+k on a rebadged Honda.

As the economy recovers, and a possible boom coming in the next 3 years, we may see a spurt of sports cars (over sized ones, not light weight/cheap) and then crash with econo boxes or electric "Kei-car" like concept with a wagon or mini-van shape. Hauls shit/electric/small/cheap. Efficiency > everything else.

That is my prediction.
