My last car I needed to change the bolts to put a frame on for my front plate. Left it off as the hardware store was only a few blocks away. Sure enough got pulled over for no plate just before the parking lot. Showed him the parts and he laughed and let me off with a warning.

Get a thin piece of aluminium (thin but not too thin so it doesn't bend) cut smaller than the license plate. Cut a hole in each corner. Zip tie this to grill. Put layering of some material behind the bottom to make the plate perpendicular to ground if need be. If the plate is thick enough you could drill two holes in each corner and drill a recessed channel between them deep enough for a zip tie (1/16th of an inch or so). Now you have a metal surface that is flat, even with zip ties holding it in place, with which to cover in double sided mounting tape to stick your license plate on. After it's on you can't see zip ties.
Seems like a lot of work but it would look clean a.f. PS you could also use a piece of 1/8 inch ABS plastic. It's tough and sturdy and easier to cut. |
