Wow. This is unsettling. What's crawford doing with theirs? Don't they have a 450+ setup?

No one in their right mind should be surprised or unsettled that the gearbox in our cars breaks at the aforementioned power levels. It was made for 200hp and 151tq. Doubling that output is going to break stuff inevitably.

I bet any of these aftermarket gearboxes can handle quite a bit more that our OEM boxes.

Gearboxes are expensive, that's all there is to it.

I found a couple setups that convert manual shifting to sequential, but these modify the shifting only, the gearboxes are untouched.http://www.tunersgroup.com/TunerWire...equential.html

http://www.sqsracing.com/

Sequential shifting is not realistic for street use, but it is SO totally cool! I'd love to have it because racecar.

Same with single nut wheel hubs.

Isn't our gearbox basically the same box that's used in the Honda S2000?

One of those companies sells boxes for the S2000.

Torque ratings for these sequential boxes might not seem as high as we need, but they are built for 100% abuse, so I'm sure they'd hold up a lot better than our OEM boxes.

What makes you say that? Genuinely curious here as I've never felt sequential boxes were inadequate on any of my street driven motorcycles. Are they different when it comes to cars?

I don't think so. I stumbled upon this article a while back.

Mainly cost, and that I've read they need servicing around every 3000 miles.

I've wondered the same thing, our motorcycle boxes go forever and are sequential dog boxes.

I'd LOVE to have a sequential street gearbox in my car.

I've been wondering exactly the same thing and this just occurred to me - maybe we don't have to service our motorcycle gearboxes because they share oil with the engine. Other than swapping oil, do the automotive sequential boxes require anything else?

Do Harley people have to service their gearboxes? I'm a straight-4 guy.

All of them. The dog rings wear over time just like synchros do but may be much worse based on how you shift the car.

Elite Racing has a good sequential box for the Impreza that handles quite a bit of torque, but it's $12k+.

Got it. Thx. I wasn't sure whether reaper was referring to automotive, or Harley gearboxes.

Even more now, what's so special about motorcycle gearboxes? Why don't they crap out? Aren't they essentially the same thing?

*sets off to google, fully prepared to realize it was a stupid question*
