This is why I use a race shop for anything going on the track. (I realize you may be doing that as well, or may feel it's unnecessary.) Where I am, it's $90 for a demount, wash, inspection, mount and balance, and after probably 75 of those over the years I've never had an issue that should have been caught at the shop. Fortunately, I've also never had a bad wheel for them to catch.

One reason I started bringing a qualified helper to the track with me was so that the car could be put up after every session, the wheels removed and inspected inside and out, same with the tires, and the brakes looked over up close and personal. I'd been doing that at lunch and at the end of each day during multi-day events, but once I started instructing it just got to be too much.

I'm impressed with how little most drivers look their cars over at the track, and got serious about doing it to mine after watching what Pobst's K-Pax team was doing with his car in the paddock between outings. I figured that since we all have the same walls to stay off of, it probably wouldn't hurt to copy some of their basic procedures. Like the big boys, I'd like my alignment checked after every session, too, but...

Re Koseis: A few years ago, a fellow E30 driver warned me off them for quality reasons. It was no problem for me to stick with BBS at the time, and I never tried them, so it's useful to hear these different perspectives on them. Their price-to-weight ratio is certainly tops.

I continue to be reminded of this, too (I posted this somewhere else here recently, so sorry if it seems like I'm beating on the point):

1. Light
2. Strong
3. Inexpensive

Generally, I think you get to have only two of those at the same time. Based upon what's been said here, however, I'll be polling my peeps and taking another look at Kosei.

The K1 is very popular for e36 / e30 track duty. My personal experience with the wheel is on these platforms, and anywhere from light track-prep to fully prepped competition race cars (enduro and sprint).

It's a solid example of cast+forged wheel. It also has very good paint that will stand up to a lot of tire changes, wheel rotation, curbs and brake dust. Since they only seem to make the one version, perhaps that helps Kosei keep the price down?
