File it wherever you want. Thought my situation might be helpful since it is relatively high milage vehicle. Dealer maintained, no mods, premium fuel. Symptoms were clattering noise (like a bad valve) approx 5 min before fail, engine light, engine to idle, then engine stop. Strong gasoline odor. Eventually towed to dealer who ordered parts and repaired, and provided rental at no cost. I love my car. I have owed similar cars throughout my life beginning with an Alfa Spyder at age 20 (in 1962 if you feel that to be relevant). I don't think the car is under powered. I didn't buy it to drag race I bought it to DRIVE. I don't look forward to changing the plugs. In all fairness to Toyota, the word is Subie is not going to improve the FP situation. I went through this with BMW and they FIXED the pump design. Hope this helps someone

It might point out that HPFP might have a worse fate after crickets. It might not be directly correlated, but while I have heard of crickets, haven't heard of an actual pump failure. Just wondering if they are related at all...

Thanks for the details and yes it is helpful to hear what these cars do later in life as the miles pile on.

One question..was this the original fuel pump or was it changed in the past because of the crickets??

It was the original pump. I guess I left out something that would otherwise cause this to be put in the s--t happens file. The mech that wrote it up said there was bolt sheering which could be caused by loose stuff. Might be worth checking periodically for loose bolts, etc. Regarding crickets, my pump never developed a noise like that which could be heard in the cockpit. You could hear a fuel pump noise with the hood up that could probably be traced to the operation of the fuel pump but I would not call this noise "crickets".

So again I ask, if the OP had crickets, what do you think that would tell you?

Touchy, touchy. We just always have loser trolls who come on here spewing all kinds of garbage, only to leave after a post or two without any evidence or follow-up whatsoever. I am skeptical for a reason.
